1 Lesson 1 Gideon Obeys

God wants us to obey Him. Obeying God means doing whatever He wants us to do. Many of God’s people in the Bible show us how to obey God. Everyone say “I Can Obey!”

A long time ago, a man named Gideon was hiding. Why was he hiding? Because some bad guys called Midianites scared God’s people and robbed them all the time. But God spoke to Gideon right where he was hiding! God told Gideon to be the leader of God’s people. God told Gideon to lead God’s people from the bad Midianites. But Gideon was going to need an army.

Gideon needed an army to help him fight the bad men. Thousands of men joined Gideon’s army. But guess what God thought of Gideon’s army? God said the army was too big! That sounded crazy to Gideon but he obeyed God anyway.

God told Gideon to send some men home. Gideon kept obeying God’s instructions until only 300 men were left!

God told Gideon to give each of the men that were left only three things—a trumpet, a big clay jar, and a torch. A torch is a stick on fire. What were those things for? Gideon told his men, “Watch me and do what I do!”

That night they sneaked into the Midianite camp. They hid their torch inside the jar. Gideon gave the signal. They all blew their trumpets. They smashed their jars. Their bright torches lit up the sky. They shouted as loud as they could. Everyone yell!

The bad guys were so surprised that some of them began fighting one another and others ran away. Because Gideon obeyed God, the bad guys didn’t bother God’s people anymore!

God wants all of us to do what He says! When we obey God, He will tell us what we need to do. We can obey God just like Gideon did! Let’s all say “I can obey!” one more time. stop the story 6 7 Lesson 2 Daniel Obeys

God wants us to obey Him. Obeying God means doing whatever He wants us to do. Many of God’s people in the Bible show us how to obey God. Everyone say “I Can Obey!”

Long ago, a man named Daniel loved God. God took care of Daniel because he obeyed God. Some bad men didn’t like Daniel and wanted to get rid of him. The bad men tricked the king into making a law Daniel would not obey. The law said everyone must pray to the king instead of God! Daniel knew he could only pray to God. He decided to obey God, not the king’s law.

Daniel kept right on obeying God and praying everyday. The bad men caught Daniel praying to God and told on him. The king had to punish Daniel. The king threw Daniel in a den full of hungry lions. Let’s hear you roar!

But guess what happened? God closed the lions’ mouths. Not one of them tried to eat him. Daniel obeyed God and was safe all night long. In the morning, the king let Daniel go. Daniel obeyed God and God kept him safe!

God wants all of us to do what He says! When we obey God, he will take care of us. We can obey God just like Daniel did! Let’s all say “I can obey!” one more time.

God wants us to obey Him. Obeying God means doing whatever He wants us to do. Many of God’s people in the Bible show us how to obey God. Everyone say “I Can Obey!”

The Bible tells us that long ago a man named Joshua needed God’s help. Joshua was the leader of God’s people. They had to win a battle against the city of , but the city had a big, big wall all the way around it. Joshua and his army could not get in.

God gave Joshua a plan to follow. God told Joshua that if he obeyed, God would knock down the big wall. Joshua decided to obey God’s plan. story continues on the next page 12 13 Lesson 3 Joshua Obeys

Here’s the plan God gave Joshua. First march around the walls of Jericho one time a day for six days. Everyone count to sixsix———1,1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6! On day number seven, march around the city seven times. Everyone count to sevenseven———1,1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7! Then, shout blow your trumpets! Everyone shout as loud as you can! What do you think happened when Joshua obeyed God’s plan? The big, big walls of Jericho fell down to the ground! Joshua’s men could run into the city all at once!

God wants all of us to do what He says! When we obey God, he will give us the best plan. We can obey God just like Joshua did! Let’s all say “I can obey!” one more time.

God wants us to obey Him. Obeying God means doing whatever He wants us to do. Many of God’s people in the Bible show us how to obey God. Everyone say “I Can Obey!”

The Bible tells us about a man named Jonah who did not obey God the first time. God told Jonah to go to Ninevah and give the people a message. God wanted Jonah to tell them to stop doing bad things and love God.

But Jonah didn’t obey God. He got on a boat going far away from Ninevah. God sent a great storm. The sailors were afraid the boat would fall apart. To make the storm stop, the sailors threw Jonah off the boat. Aaaah! story continues on the next page 16 17 Lesson 4 Jonah Finally Obeys

Once Jonah was off the boat the storm stopped. Then God sent a big, big whale to swallow Jonah. Everyone open your mouth really wide like the big whale!

Jonah lived in the belly of the whale for three days and three nights. Jonah prayed and told God he was sorry for not obeying Him the first time. Jonah promised that he would obey God if God would give him another chance.

God gave Jonah a second chance and made the big, big whale spit Jonah out on the shore. Finally Jonah obeyed God. He went to Nineveh and gave the people God’s message.

God wants all of us to do what He says—the first time He asks! We need to obey God right away, not wait until we’re in a big mess. We can obey God just like Jonah finally did! Let’s all say “I can obey!” one more time.

A long time ago, there lived a man named Abraham. God loved Abraham. God could see he was a good man. God talked to Abraham. God said Abraham must move to a new land far away. God wanted to give that new land to Abraham. Abraham had never traveled that far away, but he trusted God.

Abraham did exactly what God told him to do. Abraham packed up everything he had. He took his wife, his nephew, and all that he owned. He left to go to the land God had promised him. God took care of Abraham on his trip and in the new land because Abraham obeyed God.

God wants all of us to do what He says! When we obey God, He will tell us where He wants us to go. We can obey God just like Abraham did! Let’s all say “I can obey!” one more time.

God wants us to obey Him. Obeying God means doing whatever He wants us to do. Many of God’s people in the Bible show us how to obey God. Everyone say “I Can Obey!”

But God doesn’t just want us to obey Him. He wants us to obey our parents too! God gave us mommies and daddies to tell us what to do.

The Bible tells about a man named Jesse who had a son named David. David’s older brothers were far away in the king’s army. Jesse told David to take some food to his brothers. What do you think David did?

It was a long walk. It was a scary walk. The army was far, far away. But David obeyed his dad and took the food to his brothers. When David obeyed his dad, he was obeying God too.

God gives kids grown-ups, like mommies or daddies, to help them know what to do. When they ask you to pick up your toys or to stop throwing a fit, you need to obey. You can obey God when you obey your mommy or daddy.

God wants all of us to do what He says! When we obey our parents, we are obeying God, too. We can obey God, and our parents, just like David did! Let’s all say “I can obey!” one more time. stop the story 28 29
