6 | Subspace Chatter This left us with the solution we used. We realized we only had to make it look like Harry Kim floated away from us. The camera was attached to the inside of the damaged tube set. The set was relatively small, so we mounted it with the camera on wheels and moved it away from the blue screen and the actor. This way the actor remained in front of the blue screen during the travel, and we got the illusion that he was falling away from the set when in actuality the set was moving away from him.

The effect was flawless and no one until now had any idea of what was required to pull it off.

Many viewers do not realize that the Harry Kim that started the Voyager mission died in this episode. Harry Kim from the alternate destructive reality joined the Voyager crew and was the one who eventually returned home.

The Hollywood Reporter included this episode in “Star Trek: Voyager -- The 15 Greatest Episodes” by Aaron Couch and Graeme McMillan (23 September 2016).
