00 Förändringar i läsvanor och läsförmåga bland 9- till 10-åringar Resultat från internationella studier Monica Rosén Förmågan att kunna läsa och att tillägna sig text är en av de allra viktigaste förmågor som barn har att erövra under de tidiga skol- åren. Den är grunden för lärande i alla ämnen, den kan användas för rekreation och för personlig utveckling. Det handlar om att utrusta barn med möjligheter att delta fullt ut i olika sammanhang i den lokala uppväxtmiljön och i det omgivande samhället. Det informa- tions- och kunskapsintensiva samhälle som vi nu lever i ställer stora krav på god läsförmåga. Den som inte kan eller har svårt med läs- ningen löper hög risk att fara illa. Att kunna läsa med god förstå- else kan därför anses vara en mänsklig rättighet, lika mycket som det är en individuell och samhällelig nödvändighet. Mot den bakgrunden fokuseras i detta kapitel 9- till 10-åringars förändringar i läsnivå utifrån resultat från och analyser av Sveriges deltagande i internationella läsundersökningar. Syftet är att be- skriva och diskutera förändringar i läsnivå över tid, samt återge resultat från analyser av möjliga orsakssamband med fokus på be- tydelsen av ett ökat datoranvändande på fritiden. Kapitlet börjar med en översiktlig beskrivning av svenska 9- till 10-åringars resultat i olika läsundersökningar. Därefter följer ett avsnitt som visar hur förändringarna i läsnivå ser ut över tid när resultat från alla läsundersökningar lagts på en gemensam lässkala. I detta avsnitt redovisas också förekomsten av förändringar i relaterade faktorer, såsom attityder till läsning och självbild som läsare. I den tredje delen redovisas analyser av samband mellan läsprestationer och ökad datoranvändning hemma utifrån en hypotes om förändrade läsvanor.
