There are many people living in South- ern Nevada who will claim to have never been bitten by a mosquito, and people new to the Las Vegas Valley who may think that due to our dry climate mosquitoes are not an issue. Unfortunately, we do have mosquitoes in Nevada, and these mosquitoes are known to carry the viruses that cause West Nile virus and St. Louis Encephalitis. West Nile virus cases are reported most often – and while the majority of people will experience mild or even no symptoms at all, some people will get the more serious form of the illness. West Nile encephalitis can cause severe neurological symptoms and can have a long-term or even permanent impact on a person’s health.
