Phoenix and Las Vegas are Bypass, Flamingo Corridor Improvements, FAST infrastructure and operation, and the only two metropolitan areas in the US with more than 1 million people that are not improvements along Maryland Parkway. connected by an interstate. With the build out of ports in Mexico, Southern Nevada anticipates more commercial vehicles traveling through the state. The RTC believes Interstate 11 is vital to diversifying the economy by converting Nevada into an inland port for freight. In 2014 the RTC will break ground on the first phase of I-11, the Boulder City Bypass. The project will construct 12 miles of new freeway around the southern and eastern perimeter of Boulder City from US-95 to US-93. The project will include the design and construction of a four-lane access controlled freeway with a new interchange at US-95 and a reconfigured interchange at the US-93/SR-172 Exit. Major project elements will include extensive rock excavation, nine bridges, a scenic view parking area overlooking Lake Mead, and environmental mitigation. FAST The RTC’s Freeway and Arterial System of Transportation (FAST) is designed to both monitor and control traffic on valley freeways and roadways. Technicians analyze real-time traffic conditions on freeways and major arterials by monitoring closed- circuit television cameras and collecting traffic data. Over the years, FAST has worked in concert with NDOT, law enforcement, and local entities to efficiently and safely manage the valley’s freeways and arterials. Recognized as a national leader in integrated Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) organizations, FAST’s traffic management is achieved through the use of traffic signals, ramp meters, freeway flow detectors, fiber optic communication network and dynamic message signs that have been installed throughout the valley and outlying areas such as Primm, Laughlin, and Mesquite. In addition, NDOT and FAST are work- ing together to provide live-streaming video to residents on 240 of its 480 cameras. The new tool is designed to help motorists make educated commute decisions before leaving home or work. In 2014, FAST is operating brand new ITS equipment along I-15 between Craig Road and the Speedway. The new devices include five Dynamic Message Signs, two Travel

Club Ride Club Ride Commuter Services is a free program from the Regional Transportation transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) designed to reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality and mobility, and ultimately create a more sustainable community. Club Ride works with local-area employers to encourage the use of commute alternatives such as riding transit, carpooling, walking and biking. In 2013, Club Ride partnered with more than 250 Southern Nevada employers and registered approximately 5,600 new commuters in the program. Club Ride statistics show that more than 967,800 clean commute trips were reported in 2013, reducing more than 5.8 million miles of travel from Southern Nevada roads. The program also reduced 58.56 tons of carbon monoxide, equivalent to saving 5,978 gallons of gas. Club Ride also introduced its Club Ride Rewards mobile app for iPhone and Android in 2013 allowing commuters to report their trip from their phone anytime, anywhere. FAST operates traffic signals, detection cameras, ramp meters, freeway flow detectors, and dynamic By reporting their green commutes to Club Ride, participants are eligible for monthly message signs to help improve traffic flow and safety on our freeways and surface streets. incentives including gift cards and other prizes.
