The depth of the Tigers' bench figured to play a factor in Mizzou's successes — as eight of the 13 scholarship players on the roster had at least 31 games of Division I experience under their belts. • A key part of that returning experience is the sophomore trio of Xavier Pinson, Torrence Watson and Javon Pickett. The trio played a combined 94 games a season ago and made a combined 47 starts. They each scored 200+ points in their freshman season, becoming the first Tiger trio since Arthur Johnson, Rickey Paulding and Wesley Stokes in 1999-2000 to do so in their first campaign. PINSON EXCELLING IN SIXTH MAN ROLE • Pinson is averaging 8.0 points off the bench through 12 games - fourth-best on the team, while shooting 41.3 percent from the field and 77.5 percent from the free throw line. He boasts a 1.3 -to-turnover ratio. Pinson scored seven points at Temple, including a pair of clutch buckets to ice the game in the final minutes, then lifted Mizzou with 14 points against Illinois, hitting a season-high two triples. He's shooting 54.5 percent from 3-point range over the last five ames.g • Pinson has scored at least seven points off the bench eight times in 13 games to begin his sophomore campaign. He reached the eight-point mark just 12 times as a freshman. Mizzou is 6-2 this season when Pinson scores at least seven points off the pine. • Pinson now has six 5+ assist games in his career with two already this season. He's recorded an assist in 18 consecutive games dating back to last season. After dishing 71 assists a season ago, he's already over halfway to that mark with 37 assists in just 13 games in 2019-20. PICKETT: THE CONSTRUCTION WORKER • Sophomore Javon Pickett is a do-it-all guard for head coach Cuonzo Martin. Pickett has started 37 of 42 games since coming to Mizzou. He logged 808 minutes as a freshman - joining Jontay Porter, Terrence Phillips and Johnathan Williams III as the only Tiger freshmen with 800+ minutes this decade. • Pickett has been coming off the bench over the last five games and it's sparked his production. In the last five outings, he's averaging 11.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game after starting the first seven contests. He recently poured in a season-high 17 points vs. Illinois. He scored 13 points vs. Southern Illinois and 16 points vs. Temple, giving him three consecutive double-digit scoring performances for the second time in his career. He had arguably the best game of his career at Temple, in which he led Mizzou with 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting and added five rebounds in 25 minutes off the bench. It was the first time Pickett has led Mizzou in scoring this season and the third time in his career. • He's scored at least seven points 26 times in 43 games at Mizzou, and has turned it up a notch recently as Mizzou's second-leading scorer the last five games, averaging 11.6 points per game off the bench. • Pickett leads Mizzou in offensive rebounds this season. Of his 56 rebounds this season, 41.1 percent have come on the offensive glass. He has 11 offensive boards in the last five games alone. • Pickett posted 10 points and eight boards vs. Incarnate Word, the fourth true guard to reach those numbers under Martin at Mizzou alongside Kassius Robertson, Jordan Geist and Mark Smith. He then filled the box score with nine points, five boards and three assists in a team-high 33 minutes vs. Morehead State. 2019-20 MIZZOU BASKETBALL ROSTER # NAME HT WT POS CL CAREER PLAN HOMETOWN / HIGH SCHOOL PREVIOUS SCHOOL 0 Torrence Watson 6-5 205 G So.
