Page 4 NY ELITE FC 1997/1998 BOYS COMPETE AT 2016 NPL FINALS

July 2016 - NY Elite FC is extremely pleased to report that our 1997/1998 boys secured the 2016 New York Club Soccer League (NYCSL) U18 National Premier League (NPL) first place title. This is the first NPL title for this team in what is the last year for a core group of boys who have been with NY Elite FC since its inception in 2009. They had a great NPL run in their final season together, wrapping up competition at the NPL Finals in Aurora, CO July 14-17. Their final record was 0-1-2, and tied with Campton United, the eventual champions. This was the team's second trip to Colorado, with their last visit in July 2013 to compete in the US Club Soccer National Cup as a result of winning the Atlantic Soccer League (ASL) U15 Championship. A great effort by this team. See below for local media coverage and game recaps.

See News10 Coverage from Saturday, July 9, 2016 11PM broadcast See The Troy Record, July 13, 2016 See The Saratogian, July 13, 2016

Game 1 - NYE vs. Houstonians DRAW 2-2 - Steve Klimek scored from Connor DeFilippis at 14', Justin Akin put one in unassisted at 39'. However, Adel Cekic got a red card at the start of 2nd half, playing a man down until the final minutes when they scored 2, ending the game with the second goal on a PK. Klimek was injured and may not be back.

Game 2 - NYE vs. Campton United (IL) - DRAW 3-3 - NYE had an unbelievable second half 3 goal comeback to earn a 3-3 draw with Campton United in game 2 of the NPL Finals. NYE was down 3-0 after 45 minutes on three shots due to defensive giveaways, despite dominating in possession. NYE stormed back in the second half with a stiff wind on their backs. Connor DeFilippis got NYE on the board at 48' with a penalty kick. Kyle Landis scored a header off a long free kick by Ben Licht in the 70'. The comeback was complete with a repeat long kick header combo at 86' by Griffen MacWatters. NYE plays at 3:00 tomorrow needing a win and preferably a win by either team playing in the other game to advance. A win by NYE and a tie in the other game will have a 3 way tie with tiebreakers determining who advances.

Game 3 - NYE vs. Houston Dynamos - LOSS 1-3 - The run is unfortunately over with a 1-3 loss to the Dynamos from Houston. We controlled the play early on and had several chances but couldn't put one in. They converted a free kick and led 1-0 at half. Griffen MacWatters got blasted in the box but no call only to have a PK called on us to go down 2-0. Malik Sykes scored quickly on a nice individual effort from some distance. With our players pushed up the Dynamos countered to make it 3-1. The team just didn't have anything left after that, playing in 98 degree heat at kickoff. Not the result these guys were expecting but they worked hard all season and were able to make it this far.

COLLEGE RECRUITING INFORMATION

With the 2002, 2001, 1999/2000 NY Elite FC players participating in college showcase tournaments and planning for college soccer, it’s important to have adequate information to help you make the right decisions. Official National College Athletic Association (NCAA) information is located at www.ncaa.org. Your NY Elite FC coaches are also a good source of information to help plan your future soccer career and answer any questions you might have. Preparation should begin in the freshmen year and include:

• Creation of a Soccer Profile to document your experience and achievements • Compiling a video clip containing key plays to highlight your skills (no longer than 5 minutes) • Contacting College Coaches at schools where you are interested in attending and playing in their program, and notifying them when/where they can see you play • Participate in College Showcase Tournaments with your team • Attending College ID Camps and Showcase Weekends to play in front coaches who may not be able to see you at tournaments

NY Elite FC holds an annual College Soccer Information Night, usually during the winter, to provide an overview of the process so players can get ready for the following year’s recruiting activities. Our March 2017 event was well-attended by more than 40 players and their families as Adam Clinton (RPI Mens Head Coach) and Steve Karbowski (Siena College Women’s Head Coach) provided details on the college recruiting process and answered questions. Watch for future dates in early 2018.
