The degradation state was very severe and the abandonment it suffered for decades has left it virtually crumbling in pieces. The study here presented is part of a broader study carried out in this portal aiming at providing assistance for the definition of the conservation concept and for the delineation of the specific conservation actions to be carried out. The DRMS (drilling resistance measurement system) was used for identifying the degradation condition and it showed to be of major importance for the study carried out. Through a progressive sampling strategy, it was possible to get information on the conservation state that showed to be decisive to build up a precise model of the decay processes responsible for the major degradation features. A deep fragmentation process and a superficial softening were identified and a profuse presence of past treatments was also detected. The implications in terms of the conservation concept are also briefly addressed in the paper. 1. Out of the blue.” Phillip Lloyd Powell (1919-2008) About the Artist Phillip Lloyd Powell was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania, in 1919. His interest in building began when he was a teenager, when he made custom furniture for family and friends. He attended the Drexel Institute of Technology for engineering in Philadelphia at age twenty. He was drafted into the military during World War II, and was trained in meteorology at the University of Chicago to help him with his work with the Army Air Corps in Britain. He was in England for almost five years, and his brush with theater and the arts there influenced him greatly. He was employed as both a meteorologist and an engineer prior to moving to New Hope, Pennsylvania, and initiating his life as an artist in 1947. He said: “When I originally came to New Hope, having run screaming from office or business life, I was looking for a quiet unstressful life, really becoming a hermit, but from the moment I started building my first house on the highway, I was inundated with people and eventually business and I went with the flow.” Inspired by woodworking artists George Nakashima and Wharton Esherick, Powell began developing his own furniture designs in the early fifties, which he sold from his New Hope shop. -

The actual approaches for inspection, diagnosis, monitoring and curative conservation are intermittent, unplanned, overpriced and lack a methodical strategy. Therefore, the ultimate goal of the HeritageCare project is the creation of a non-profit self- sustaining entity which will keep supervising the accomplishment of the methodology and the sustainability of the results once the project is concluded. The present report belongs to the first Group of Activities of the project and it is focus on the survey of the construction typologies and integrated objects inside the heritage buildings, the main damage mechanisms and the most common deterioration processes for buildings and objects within the SUDOE space. The report starts with a deeply description of the contextualization of the heritage buildings on the SUDOE territory, construction elements (structural, envelope, partitions, finishes installations, etc.), the typical construction systems (assemblage of construction elements), as well as particularities between the three countries (Portugal, Spain and France). -

Although on the Portuguese territory, the altarpiece was made by artists from the Royal Spanish school of Valladolid, under a mannerist style. -

Agrupamento Vertical de Escolas de Pico de Regalados E.B.I Monsenhor Elísio Araújo The "Bom Jesus do Monte" (Good Jesus of the Montain) Sanctuary is located in the surroundings of the city of Braga. It is considered one of the most enchanting places in Portugal. This Sanctuary evokes the Passion of Jesus. The Sameiro Sanctuary is a sanctuary located in Espinho, in the surroundings of the city of Braga. It is the second devotion centre in Portugal after Fatima. The Cathedral of Braga (Sé de Braga) is one of the most important monuments of the city. Due to its long history and artistic significance it is also one of the most important buildings in the country. When something is very old, we say “it’s older than Braga’s Cathedral”. The Monastery of St Martin of Tibães (Mosteiro de São Martinho de Tibães) is a monastery situated in the parish of Mire de Tibães, near Braga. It was the mother house of the Benedictine order in Portugal and Brazil, and it is famous for the exuberant baroque decoration of its church.
