AT THE HEART OF THE CITY

LEEDS KIRKGATE MARKET OPEN MARKET CATERING TENDER WHERE MARKET MEETS STREET FOOD

Leeds Kirkgate Market is rapidly making a name for itself as the hottest “foodie” destination in the City. Apart from being voted Britain’s favourite Market 2016 and hosting over 400 businesses, it is for its innovative approach “Where Market meets Street food” that the Market is getting people’s attention. Recognising the role that high end street food mobilers play in the City, the Market has joined forces with other partners to create the Leeds Food & Drink Academy. Its indoor market proudly hosts Zm Zm Bakery, Yorkshire Wrap.Co, Tea Pot, Jenny’s Jerk Chicken, Manjit’s Kitchen and Banh & Mee. Street Food is widely available and is greeted enthusiastically by the people of Leeds. The Market now wants to attract similar quality of vendors and high end mobilers for its outside catering pitches. The opening in October 2016 of the brand new Victoria Gate Shopping experience and the biggest John Lewis store out- side of , literally next door is sure to boost footfall, adding to the 8.5 million customers that already come through the doors every year. We are inviting expressions of interest from mobilers who be- lieve they have something unique, quirky and quality to add to the offer. This pack will explain the opportunities available to you all. KIRKGATE MARKET

Founded in 1857 and the birthplace of Marks & Spencer Plc which still has a stall here, Kirkgate Market is a stunning Grade 1 listed building which has grown and expanded over the decades and is now the proud bearer of the title largest market in Europe. Situated in the heart of the city centre, five minutes walk from the rail station and right next to the bus and national coach station, with its own NCP car park, Kirkgate Market’s city cen- tre location is enviable, evidenced by 140,000 people who vis- it every week. Kirkgate Market has won a Trip Advisor Award of Excellence in 2014 & 2015 and has a large and loyal following on social media with over 20,000 followers on Twitter, on Facebook and on Pinterest as well as its own dedicated customer website www.leedsmarkets.co.uk, especially important in a city with over 37,000 students at our 3 universities. The council invests significantly in the promotion and market- ing of Kirkgate Market locally, regionally and national and the Markets team has done many on and off site promotions and events working with partners such as Play- house, Johnson Press, Leeds Rhinos, Leeds United, Monarch Airlines to name just a few. A recent 13.7 million pound refurbishment of the Market has resulted in a brand new 10m x 10m Event Space, with light- ing rig and PA system.
