Iowa State Board of Education Executive Summary March 28, 2019 Agenda Item: Morningside College Traditional Practitioner Preparation Program Approval State Board Priority: Improving Teacher and Leader Preparation State Board Role/Authority: The State Board of Education sets standards and approves practitioner preparation programs based on those standards. Iowa Code section 256.7(3) and 281 Iowa Administrative rule 79.5. Presenter(s): Lawrence R. Bice, Administrative Consultant Bureau of Leading, Teaching, Learning Services Attachment(s): One Recommendation: It is recommended that the State Board award full approval to the Morningside College traditional practitioner preparation program through the next review scheduled for the 2024-2025 academic year. Background: Morningside College provides a traditional practitioner preparation program on their Sioux City campus, in addition to online graduate endorsement coursework for in-service teachers. The Morningside program offers preparation in many elementary and secondary level endorsements. The attached report is a summary of the fall 2017 review of the Morningside College traditional practitioner preparation program under 281 Iowa Administrative Code chapter 79. The program has met all Chapter 79 standards without condition; therefore, the Department recommends the State Board grant full approval to the Morningside College traditional practitioner preparation program. 2016-2017 Catalog www.iw.edu 2016-17 Catalog The Iowa Wesleyan University Catalog is a yearly publication that lists the academic programs: majors, minors, certificates, policies, and procedures for the institution on an academic year basis. The catalog also documents the fiscal, curricular, and co-curricular programs. Included are also the college calendar, course descriptions, faculty and staff, and the Board of Trustees. Iowa Wesleyan (IW) offers both an electronic .pdf version of the catalog as well as a hardcopy version. Archived catalogs are available for review in the IW Registrar's Office, This catalog is updated annually. Every effort has been made to make the catalog accurate as of the date of publication. However, all policies, procedures, fees, and charges are subject to change at any time by appropriate action of the faculty, the college administration, or the Board of Trustees of Iowa Wesleyan University. Updates to the Catalog The curriculum process is governed by the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Curriculum Committee, the Faculty Executive Committee, and the faculty. The curriculum approval process generally consists of a proposal from the department/program level, approved by the department/program committee (if applicable), University Curriculum Committee, and the VPAA, and the Faculty. Catalog updates are generally processed with approvals from Divisions, University, Faculty, and Curriculum Committee representatives. Editing begins in late February with course changes due to the Office of the Registrar by June 1. Publication is set for July of the current academic year.
