The date of completion was April 2, 1997. C. MISCELLANEOUS 1. The Galbreath family also owns Darby Dan Farms, located in both SW Franklin County and outside Lexington, Kentucky. Two of their horses, Chateaugay (1963), and Proud Clarion (1967), have won the Kentucky Derby. 2. 1357 THE UNSTOPPABLE FORCE HITS THE IMMOVABLE WALL: SHOULD ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANUP LIABILITY BE DISCHARGED IN BANKRUPTCY? INTRODUCTION Imagine you are a bankruptcy judge and a corporation has prop- erly filed for bankruptcy in your court.' The corporation is before you asking for the discharge of a debt that the corporation incurred prior to filing its bankruptcy petition.2 Your duty as a judge seems clear-to uphold the law and discharge the debtor of its prepetition liability, thereby giving the corporation the "fresh start" that bank- ruptcy law provides.3 Now imagine the debt the corporation is trying to shed is its lia- bility for damage the corporation caused to the environment. 4 You know this debt is not specifically listed among those identified by Congress as nondischargeable in bankruptcy.5 Further, this corpora- tion is responsible for many hazardous chemical sites that are leaking toxins into the environment. 6 The government has determined that the cleanup of these sites will cost tens of millions of dollars.7 If the corporation is allowed to avoid its liability, then the cleanup costs will be borne by innocent taxpayers.8 This outcome would provide incentive to other entities that deal with toxic wastes to ignore envi- ronmental protection laws, damage the environment, and simply plead bankruptcy when cleanup costs are imposed upon them.9 Now your duty is not so clear. The History of Oaklawn Park
The History of Oaklawn Park 1900s Desiring to build a track closer to downtown, John Condon and Dan Stuart, who also ran Southern Club and Turf Exchange, a popular downtown Hot Springs night spot, and brothers Louis and Charles Cella of St. Louis formed the Oaklawn Jockey Club in 1904. Celebrated Chicago architect Zachary Taylor Davis is hired to design Oaklawn’s glass-enclosed, heated grandstand – among the first of its kind in the country. The grandstand reportedly seated 1,500 people and cost $500,000. Davis designed Wrigley Field, the longtime home of the Chicago Cubs, a decade later. Feb. 15, 1905 – The inaugural meet opens and runs through March 18. 1910s March 11, 1916 – Owner Louis A. Cella returns racing to Oaklawn after nine years 1 of political uncertainty in Arkansas. Cella, from St. Louis, was a bookmaker, horseman and financier and started running tracks, both in his hometown and in New Orleans. He later joined his brother, Charles J. Cella in operating Douglas Park and Latonia Race Course in Kentucky. For a time, they challenged the preeminence of Matt Winn and Churchill Downs in the Blue Grass state. Fabled mare Pan Zareta won the feature that opening day and goes 3-for-3 on the meet. March 8, 1917 – After one race in Mexico, Old Rosebud makes a winning debut at Oaklawn, 33 months after winning the Kentucky Derby in 1914. He would win again a week later, but would finish third at 137 lbs. to Pan Zareta at 113 when they met March 24. Old Rosebud would turn the tables April 6 in an allowance race en route to leading the nation in handicap earnings that year.

Toyota Blue Grass Stakes® (G1) Sponsored by Toyota 93rd Running • Spring • 1 1/8 miles • 3-year-olds The Blue Grass Stakes was named for the Bluegrass region of Kentucky, which is characterized by grass having bluish-green culms and is known as the heart of the Thoroughbred breeding industry. First run at the Kentucky Association track in Lex- ington in 1911, the Blue Grass has, from its inception, served as an important prep for the Kentucky Derby. At the Association track, the Blue Grass was staged from 1911-1914 and 1919-1926. The race was revived at Keeneland in the spring of 1937. In 1943-1944, the Blue Grass was renewed as a part of the Keeneland-at-Churchill Downs meetings. In 1945, the Blue Grass was run as a part of the Churchill Downs meeting. Toyota became the sponsor in 1996. The purse of the race was increased to $1 million in 2015.
