What is seen will change regularly so that you never see the APPROACH TO LANDSCAPE DESIGN same thing twice. The concept is to make the entire site an art and culture experience. The existing peninsula is already a beautiful tranquil series of spaces around the lake. We intend to intensify the natural landscape with extensive tree planting. This will allow different sized rooms or clearings to contain sculptures, pavilions and amphitheatres, strung along a series of trails. Ancient Greek Theatre

It is important to create this intimacy within the wider site and also to provide an acoustic buffer WORK IN THE WOODS to the river, for peaceful reflection as well as performance. The groundplane will be a rich landscape of undulating landforms and diverse plant communities, including indigenous forests, Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, Virginia lakeside riparian zone and riverine community. Theatre in the woods To the west a series of sculpted hills will provide Woodland Activities alternative space for artwork, conceal parking and servicing, focus particular views in between them, and allow larger crowds to view the Key outdoor stage. Drawing upon the ancient traditions of Australian Aboriginal aerial landscape art, with its birds eye interpretation of a place, our proposal is for a series of buildings designed to re-energise the existing Arts Precinct. They are intended to be a visible (both within the city and from above - Google Earth) manifestation of their cultural function.

The project is designed to create a presence that through its use and spatial arrangement, will challenge assumptions on the way people think about culture and The Gold Coast. It is also intended to re-define the connections between Art, Architecture, Landscape and Performance.
