Bill Oppenheim, August 7, 2002 – Did They (Storm Cats) All Go to Europe for the Summer one each with first foals 1999 (Sir Cat) and 2000 (Tale FROM THE DESK OF... of the Cat), there are four sons of Storm Cat standing in Kentucky for five-figure fees ($10,000 and higher) Bill Oppenheim whose first yearlings are selling this year, and another four standing for $25,000 or higher who have their first foals on the ground in 2002. We are probably a couple DID THEY ALL GO TO EUROPE FOR THE SUMMER? of years away, at least, from really knowing whether Given the explosion of Storm Cat two-year-olds in Storm Cat is just an average sire of sires, or a really Europe this year, it’s hard to remember that until Aljabr serious one. But if Aidan O’Brien continues to turn out won the G1 Prix de la Salamandre in September 1998, five two-year-old stakes winners by the end of every the then 15-year-old Storm Cat was anything but a July, it will be a few years yet before we have to household word in Europe. My, how things do change. decide if there’s a single successor to Storm Cat, and if Subsequently North America’s Champion Sire in 1999 so, who. and 2000, and without doubt the world’s pre-eminent sire, with a $500,000 stud fee, Storm Cat’s current Sons of a Cat... crop of two-year-olds are cleaning up in Europe. In fact, The record of the 10 Storm Cat sons that we have eight of his 10 juvenile winners this year have been in enough information to assess is mixed: four are Europe. -

MONDAY, AUGUST 1, 2016 LORD NELSON FLIES TO BING CROSBY WIN EXAGGERATOR STORMS Spendthrift Farm=s Lord Nelson (Pulpit) doubled up on Grade I TO HASKELL WIN tallies with a scorching victory in the GI Bing Crosby S. Sunday at Del Mar. The 4-year-old completed the Crosby=s six furlongs in 1:07.65, just .05 seconds off the track=s 43-year-old record for the distance. Off as the even-money choice, Lord Nelson sat third, two to three lengths off a blazing :21.16 quarter-mile set by joint leaders Justin Squared (Zensational) and Subtle Indian (Indian Charlie). Moving to tackle the leaders under Flavien Prat on the latter half of the turn, Lord Nelson opened clear in the straightaway and bounded home by four lengths, nearly matching the track record of King of Cricket (Coursing), set back in 1973. Lord Nelson's time established a stakes record for the Crosby, eclipsing the 54-year-old record of 1:07.80 set by Crazy Kid, which at the time was a world's record. AHe=s become a serious sprinter,@ said winning trainer Bob Baffert. AHe=s getting better and better. He was pretty close to those fast splits and he still had a kick left. STALLION SYNOPSIS FOR: NOT THIS TIME PREPARED BY: ALAN PORTER PREPARED FOR: TAYLOR MADE STALLIONS INC Pedigree Consultants are able to help you in all facets of your thoroughbred investment. Not only are we able to proven mating advice but we are also able to advise on mare selection, management and promotion of stallions, and selection and purchase of racing and breeding stock. For more information on the services visit www.pedigreeconsultants.com, email [email protected] or call +1 859 285 0431. NOT THIS TIME The most brilliant two-year-old son of sire of sires, Giant’s Causeway, Not This Time was also arguably the fastest and most spectacular two-year-old of his crop. In addition to being by Storm Cat’s leading sire son, he is out of record-breaking graded and multiple stakes winning Miss Macy Sue – also dam of brilliant Breeders’ Cup Mile (gr. I) victor Liam’s Map – and descends from Ta Wee, a two-time Champion Sprinter who is half-sister to the legendary Dr. Fager. Giant’s Causeway has demonstrated an affinity for the Fappiano branch of Mr. Prospector, and Fappiano is particularly interesting here, as he is out of a mare by Dr. Fager, which should work extremely well with remarkable strong Tartan Farm/Genter heritage in the dam of Not This Time (which includes inbreeding to Dr. Fager’s brilliant half-sister, Ta Wee). We can note that Unbridled’s Song – a grandson of Fappiano – is the sire of Not This Time’s brilliant half-brother Liam’s Map. -
