For instance, the Gray squirrel can be many colors –Gray, black, white, cream colored, pie- bald and albino. These are called color morphs but they are all gray squir- rels. Raccoons are a brown, black and white mixture normally but there are also blond raccoons. White tigers are big attractions in zoos. There are also white alligators and Black squirrel white boa constrictors. Also white moose, white deer, white hippos and White alligator—note eyes elephants (not just at sales). I didn’t think were any real pink ele- phants except for those some people saw, but there are! Terms include albino. Albinism is a condition in which there is an absence of melanin, which gives color to the skin, feathers, hair and eyes. Vertebrates with albinism are not only white (or some- times pale yellowish) in color but they also have very pale eyes, Albino squirrel—pink often pink or red in color as the blood vessels show through. Pink elephant calf eyes Another is leucism (from the Greek word leukos, meaning white) which is a partial loss of pigmentation, which can make the animal have white or patchily colored skin, hair, feathers and so on, but the pigment cells in the eyes are not affected by the condition. Leucism is often mistaken for albinism, but they are two very different conditions. So next time you see an Leucistic cardinal animal you think is albino, look to see if it is only mostly white Piebald deer and, importantly, take a look at the eyes. Partial leucism results in piebald animals. A fascinating one is isabellinism . Archduchess Isabella of Austria made a bizarre pledge at the start of the 17th century. Until her husband conquered the city of Ostend and united the prov- inces of their country, she would not remove or wash her underwear. “Isabella” is the name of a color, a sort of grayish-yellow. Isabellinism Erythrism: reddish color of an animal’s fur, hair, skin, feathers or eggshells. This may be ge- netic as in Katydids. It is a dominant trait in Katydids but pink katydids are so noticeable they get eaten which is why they are so rare. Diet is another factor. Bees that feed on col- ored corn syrup (think Maraschino cherry) become red. Flamingos and others also get their color from their food. Chimeras: Chimeric animals have a mixture of genetically distinct tis- Erythristic Katydid sues that arise from two or more fertilized eggs that fused together in the womb – which means they are essentially two twins that fused together into a single creature. Vitiligo: skin loses patches of color because pigment cells (melanocytes) are Chimera destroyed for unknown reasons. Mi- chael Jackson had vitiligo. The criteria used by previous authors to define colour aberrancies of snakes, particularly albinism, are varied and terms have widely been used ambiguously. The aim of this work was to review genetically based aberrant colour morphs of wild Neotropical snakes and associated terminology. We compiled a total of 115 cases of conspicuous defective expressions of pigmentations in snakes, including melanin (black/brown colour), xanthins (yellow), and erythrins (red), which in- volved 47 species of Aniliidae, Boidae, Colubridae, Elapidae, Leptotyphlopidae, Typhlopidae, and Viperidae.

  • Eagles' Team Travel
PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME TEACHER ACTIVITY GUIDE 2019-2020 EDITIOn PHILADELPHIA EAGLES Team History The Eagles have been a Philadelphia institution since their beginning in 1933 when a syndicate headed by the late Bert Bell and Lud Wray purchased the former Frankford Yellowjackets franchise for $2,500. In 1941, a unique swap took place between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh that saw the clubs trade home cities with Alexis Thompson becoming the Eagles owner. In 1943, the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh franchises combined for one season due to the manpower shortage created by World War II. The team was called both Phil-Pitt and the Steagles. Greasy Neale of the Eagles and Walt Kiesling of the Steelers were co-coaches and the team finished 5-4-1. Counting the 1943 season, Neale coached the Eagles for 10 seasons and he led them to their first significant successes in the NFL. Paced by such future Pro Football Hall of Fame members as running back Steve Van Buren, center-linebacker Alex Wojciechowicz, end Pete Pihos and beginning in 1949, center-linebacker Chuck Bednarik, the Eagles dominated the league for six seasons. They finished second in the NFL Eastern division in 1944, 1945 and 1946, won the division title in 1947 and then scored successive shutout victories in the 1948 and 1949 championship games. A rash of injuries ended Philadelphia’s era of domination and, by 1958, the Eagles had fallen to last place in their division. That year, however, saw the start of a rebuilding program by a new coach, Buck Shaw, and the addition of quarterback Norm Van Brocklin in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams.

Any abnormal condition in these colour patterns leads to Albinism, Xanthism, Erythrism and Melanism according to their pigment pattern. The present note is a case of partial albinism in Red vented Bulbul (Pycnonotus cafer) from Central Aravalli Foothills, Rajasthan. Key words: Partial albinism, Red-vented Bulbul, Central Aravalli foothills. Birds are considered as the most colourful creatures production or absence of the pigment melanin of the Mother Nature. They have unique colour mainly responsible for integumentory colour plumages in their different life periods i.e. breeding patterns. In birds this trait is regulated by genetic plumage (bright colour patterns during the breeding polymorphism. Albinism is best recognized by season), non-breeding (comparatively less colour abnormal body colouration in general and abnormal pattern during the rest period of life except the coloration of the skin, hair, feathers, scales or eyes breeding season) and eclipse plumage (transitory in particular (Kinner et al. 1985; Oetting & King phase between breeding and non breeding 1999). plumages and vice versa). To achieve these colour Albinism can be further classified in distinct patterns birds change their feather coats by types depending on specific characteristics of plucking off the old feathers and new feathers grow presence of melanin pigment.

A review of colour phenotypes of the Eastern Red-backed Salamander, Plethodon cinereus , in North America . Canadian Field-Naturalist 128(3): 250 –259. the Eastern Red-backed Salamander ( Plethodon cinereus ) is the most abundant salamander species in many forests of north - eastern North America. it is well-known for its colour polymorphism, which includes eight colour phenotypes: the red-backed (striped), lead-backed (unstriped) and erythristic morphs, as well as the iridistic, albino, leucistic, amelanistic and melanistic anomalies. Here we review the various colorations of P. cinereus , with the objective of facilitating the identification of these different phenotypes and of generating interest among field herpetologists and scientists reporting on this species. We also list six previously unpublished occurrences of colour variants in this species (1 case of erythrism, 3 of iridism, 1 of leucism, and 1 of partial leucism). to our knowledge, these cases include the first documented occurrence of iridism in the red-backed morph of P. cinereus , and the first two mentions of this colour anomaly in the lead-backed morph from Canada. In it, we have one continuous alphabetically arranged list. Thus references to the ear, eggs, or Anas occur in many parts of the Subject Index. One of the main sections is devoted to the ear, but references to the ear occur in other sections. Not all topics involving birds are in these indices, in spite of great efforts to secure completeness within the limitations of the work (see second paragraph of the Preface to Part 3 and paragraph G, page 9 of Part 3).
