It’s enough to fill up your soul.” - Stereogum “[Destroyer] goes from tracks like Pretty Little Lazies and Boogie Lover that’ll send you through meandering back roads, to high-octane anthems like Licensed To Drive that’ll make you reach for the gear change – best left for the highways.” - Guitar Download hi-res jpegs of Black Mountain and cover art – www.pitchperfectpr.com/black-mountain/ Official Website | Jagjaguwar | Twitter | Facebook For more information, contact: Patrick Tilley, Brid Walpole | Pitch Perfect PR – [email protected], [email protected] .

Issue 133 MARCH 29TH, 2021 Copper has a new look! So does the rest of the PS Audio website, the result of countless hours of hard work. There's more functionality and easier access to articles, and additional developments will come. There will be some temporary glitches and some tweaks required – like high-end audio systems, magazines sometimes need tweaking too – but overall, we're excited to provide a better and more enjoyable reading experience. I now hand over the column to our esteemed Larry Schenbeck: Dear Copper Colleagues and Readers, Frank has graciously asked if I’d like to share a word or two about my intention to stop writing Too Much Tchaikovsky. So: thanks to everyone who read and enjoyed it – I wrote it for you. If you added comments occasionally, you made my day. I also wrote the column so I could keep learning, especially about emerging creatives and performers in classical music. Getting the chance to stumble upon something new and nourishing had sustained me in the academic world – it certainly wasn’t the money! – and I was grateful to continue that in Copper. So why stop? Because, as they say, there is a season. It has become considerably harder for me to stumble upon truly fresh sounds and then write freshly thereon. Here I am tempted to quote Douglas Adams or Satchel Paige, who both knew how to deliver an exit line. But I’ll just say (since Frank has promised to leave the light on), goodbye for now. The door is open, Larry, and we can’t thank you enough for your wonderful contributions.

  • “Extinction(S)”
“Extinction(s)” Available as: CD, orange LP + CD, Digital Album Release Date: November 23rd , 2018 UNEARTH etched their name into the annals of hard rock history through unrelenting determination, tireless energy and a catalog of stone cold classics. Two decades into a triumphant career, the Massachusetts-bred New Wave of American Heavy Metal trailblazers are both elder statesmen and newly relevant all over again. With over a half million albums sold around the globe, UNEARTH’S astounding legacy has never been more self- evident. Festival vets and road warrior renegades, UNEARTH was a standout in a sea of worthy contenders on the final cross-country Warped Tour. Immediately upon its release in 2018, “Incinerate,” the first single from their seventh studio album, shot to Number 1 on SiriusXM Liquid Metal’s “The Devil’s Dozen” and was among the Top 100 most played songs on Amazon Music. The hunger for new music from UNEARTH was palpable and Extinction(s) delivered in spades. There could be no clearer demonstration of the band’s resilience and the unwavering passion of their worldwide fanbase - a diverse legion of heavy music acolytes who live and breathe the community, culture, and lifestyle UNEARTH represents. Extinction(s) is as much a statement of purpose as a declaration of intent, reigniting the flame of their established strengths and carving a pathway for another two decades of creative accomplishment and inspired live performances. The album is full of venom toward the wrongs of the world, fighting back against the precarious position civilization is in, determined to effect some kind of change.

  • The Great Disasters Podcast Is Written, Researched and Produced by Kari Fay
The Sinking of the Titanic (Part One) It's a cold, moonless night with calm seas. Below decks, hundreds of passengers have settled in for the night, or are burning the midnight oil and making the most of the ship’s luxurious amenities. Above them all, the lookouts in the crow’s nest strain their eyes against the freezing air, gazing into a far-reaching darkness which makes it difficult even to make out the horizon. Suddenly, something looms out of the gloom. The lookout rings the bridge, his voice urgent. “Iceberg, right ahead!” I'm Kari Fay, and this is Great Disasters. It would be hard to produce a podcast called Great Disasters and not talk about the Titanic; that’s why I’m making it the subject of a two part special. It's one of the best known tragedies in history, boosted by countless films and documentaries on the subject. Even though it happened over a hundred years ago, and even the last survivors have now passed on, it's a name with instant recognition. It seems like a tale crafted to be memorable; the ship everybody knew to be unsinkable, sunk in just a few hours on her maiden voyage with the loss of many on board, from the poorest to the richest. However, not everything you've heard about the Titanic is necessarily true. Firstly, let's address that “unsinkable” thing. Was the Titanic really designed to be unsinkable? Well, yeah, in as much as no ship designer ever designed a ship to sink; but just like any designer they were working with certain limitations; the technology of the day, the time, money and materials available, and all those other practical considerations.

  • Black Sabbath – Symptom of the Universe
Hit Songs Deconstructed Deconstructing Today's Hits for Songwriting Success http://reports.hitsongsdeconstructed.com Penn’s Pick: Black Sabbath – Symptom Of The Universe Band: Black Sabbath Song Symptom Of The Universe Writers: Butler, Iommi, Osbourne, Ward Year Released: 1975 Genre: Heavy Metal Why it’s a “Penn’s Pick”: The true origin of heavy metal is subject to debate. Bands like The Kinks, The Sonics, Blue Cheer, Iron Butterfly, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and even the Beatles (e.g. Helter Skelter) were all pivotal in its evolution, but when you really get down to it, they were all more “Hard Rock” in nature than “Metal.” Black Sabbath on the other hand was the first band that TRULY defined (and invented for that matter) the genre. They had the riffs, the lyrics, the look and the “doom and gloom” to boot which enabled them to stand apart from their aforementioned contemporaries. Initially formed in 1968 as the blues band Earth, each member of Sabbath was crucial to its impact and sound. This includes Bill Ward (crushing drums), Geezer Butler (one of the most underrated bass players of all time who also wrote the majority of the lyrics), Ozzy Osbourne (the name speaks for itself), and one of the true riff masters of all time, Toni Iommi. Together they released 8 albums during their 1970?s heyday, the first 6 of which contain some of the most important compositions in metal history, including Black Sabbath, Iron Man, Children Of The Grave and Paranoid, to name just a few of many. There is one song, however, that possesses one of the nastiest, most brutal riffs ever, and has stood the test of time as one of the heaviest songs ever written.
