NSCAA All-Americans SILVER ANNIVERSARY TEAM Army celebrated its 25th year as a varsity (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) women’s soccer team in 2010, and the fall of Carla Miller 2011 announced its Silver Anniversary Team. A first team selection at the Division II level in 1988, Twenty-two players, consisting of defenders, Miller helped the Black Knights to a national ranking of 20th and their first postseason berth in her midfielders, strikers and goalkeepers, were senior season (1988). Army earned the right to host a first-round contest in the ECAC Tournament that selected by former head coaches Gene Ventriglia fall. and Stefanie Golan.

The dangerous forward from St. Louis, Mo.,played a major role in the school’s 13 wins that GOALKEEPERS year. The Black Knights climbed as high as fifth in the national rankings and first in the Northeast Re- Mary Kidd (USMA ‘00) gion. Alex Lostetter (USMA ‘11)

Miller was part of Army’s first soccer recruiting class, competing with the Black Knights’ club-level squad DEFENDERS Gretchen Meier (USMA ‘95) her freshman season in 1985. She recorded her only collegiate hat trick in Army’s second varsity contest Carla Miller (USMA ‘89) with three goals opposite Dickinson College in 1986. Lauren Rowe (USMA ‘03 Deidre Spence (USMA ‘95) Holly Pedley Julia Stallard (USMA ‘12) Army’s only Division I NSCAA All-American, Pedley was named to the second team squad in 1994 after a Shannon Stein (USMA ‘00) recordsetting freshman campaign. Tara Williams (USMA ‘94)

Pedley, a member of the Army Sports Hall of Fame class of 2005, scored 17 goals and registered 52 MIDFIELDERS points in her first collegiate campaign. The nifty striker posted a hat trick against Monmouth in leading Delaney Brown (USMA ‘06) the Black Knights in almost every offensive category that year. Pedley’s 52 points is still a single-season Sarah Goss (USMA ‘09) Tosie LeGrand (USMA ‘94) school record and placed the plebe eighth nationally in scoring. Included among her plethora of athletic Kerry Loughman (USMA ‘00) achievements that season is a 2-1 win over archrival Navy in the inaugural meeting between the two Emily Nay (USMA ‘03) service academies. Pedley was a first team allleague choice and the loop’s “Rookie of the Year” and Kate Pendry (USMA ‘96) “Offensive Player of the Year”. Kelly Schachtler (USMA ‘03)

Following that 1-0 setback at the 1997 Patriot League Tournament, Navy turned the fortunes of the series south of the Mason-Dixon line winning the next six tilts in the rivalry. After a pair of 2-0 victories during the 1998 campaign, the Midshipmen captured a 3-1 verdict at home during the regular season in 1999 before ending Army’s season prematurely that year in the first round of the Patriot League Tournament with a 2-1 decision in overtime to run their mark to four in a row over the Black Knights. Navy would go on to score a pair of shutouts in 2000 and 2001, pushing its winning streak to six straight before the Black Knights halted the Midshipmen’s good luck. Army put the skids to Navy’s run in 2002 with a 1-1 tie on a rainy, foggy eve- ning at Clinton Field. It marked the first draw in series history and the fourth overtime contest. However, Navy’s Xochitl Piedra converted a penalty kick in the 81st minute to knot the score, and that was the way things ended after 120 minutes of play. Army won the regular-season title in 2002 with Navy finishing a very close second. It marked the first time that Army and Navy finished first and second, respectively, in the Patriot League standings. The Black Knights snapped Navy’s eight-game unbeaten streak with back-to- back 1-0 decisions in 2004 and 2005. 2019 RECORD BOOK 13 WOMEN’S SOCCER ARMY-NAVY SERIES
