ENTRÉE with the PURCHASE of an ENTRÉE & 2 LARGE DRINKS Not Valid with Any Other Offer WEEKLY NOTES SUNDAY’S GAME The Dartmouth men’s hockey team is back in action at Thompson Arena on Sunday afternoon in a non- conference tilt against Atlantic Hockey foe Holy Cross. (The Big Green played Friday night at Vermont before this program went to print.) THE LEDYARD CLASSIC Dartmouth won its first home holiday tournament since 2008 this past weekend with a pair of victories against Robert Morris, 5-1, and No. 20 Merrimack, 3-0. Union was also 2-0-0 on the weekend, but the tournament crown went the way of the home team thanks to a +7 goal differential (tiebreaker) to the Dutchmen’s +2. SCOUTING HOLY CROSS The Crusaders are currently one of the hottest teams in the nation and are on a nine-game unbeaten streak (8-0-1) following a 2-0 win at AIC on Tuesday night. The run took a team two-games under .500 and that began the season with four straight losses to its current overall record of 12-6-1. Not included in that unbeaten figure was a 5-2 exhibition win against McGill on Dec. 30. Junior Mike Barrett leads the team in both goals (10) and points (18), while Jake Bolton’s 14 assists are more than any other Holy Cross player. HOME COOKING The four-goal win in the first-ever meeting with the Colonials was also the Big Green’s first home game in 56 days following a seven-game road trip from early November through mid-December. The three-week break followed the UNH game on Dec. 11 and proceeded the Ledyard Classic. GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK Senior netminder Charles Grant earned his first ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week honor of the season and the third of his career after a stellar weekend between the pipes at the Ledyard Classic. The Nova Scotia native posted the best goals against average (0.50) and save percentage (.975) in the conference over the weekend as he stopped 39-of-40 shots on goal and posted a 22-save shutout against the 20th-ranked Warriors on Sunday to earn top-goaltender honors at the home tournament. SHINING STAR Nick Bligh was not only named the Ledyard Classic MVP, but also was tabbed as the NCAA’S Third Star of the Week for his five-point performance against Robert Morris (1-2-3) and Merrimack (1- 1-2). Bligh’s scoring output against the Colonials was a new career high, while his five points over the course of the weekend were tied for the national lead. The Milton, Massachusetts, native leads the team in both goals (6) and points (11), setting new career highs in each only 13 games into his senior campaign. WHAT’S AHEAD? The Big Green remain home this coming weekend with a pair of ECAC Hockey games against Clarkson and No. 13 St. Lawrence at Thompson Arena on Jan. 15-16 with both set for 7:05 p.m. puck drops. @Dartmouth_MIH FOR TICKET INFORMATION: 603-646-2466 or DartmouthSports.com MOE’S PROUDLY SUPPORTS BIG GREEN 250 PLAINFIELD RD WEST LEBANON, NH 03784 (603) 790-8222 FREE ENTRÉE WITH THE PURCHASE OF AN ENTRÉE & 2 LARGE DRINKS Not valid with any other offer. • Recreation and Culture
Recreation and Culture Recreation and Culture is responsible for facility maintenance, community events and sports field bookings. Third Quarter Report, 2019 1 Recreation and Culture Third Quarter Report Recreation and Culture Celebration and Activity Grants Through the months of July, August and September, the Celebration and Activity Grant stream of the Neighbourhood Grant Program supported 31 events with a total of $8,125.04 of grant funding. The events were primarily neighbourhood block party events totaling just over 3,550 guests cumulatively. The Fairy Village Festival was an event to restore a fairy village that had been destroyed by vandalism. The original fairy village was organically created by children in the neighbourhood over the years and held special meaning for the community. With support from the Celebration and Activity Grant, as well as United Way and other local community organizations, approximately 300 children and adults painted and donated various materials to fill the fairy village with whimsy and colour. The Chilliwack Pride BBQ was a first time event that showcased the inclusivity of the community and created a welcoming and safe space for all attendees. The approximately 700 people in attendance enjoyed a variety of food, desserts, games and entertainment, as well as the opportunity to connect with local organizations and learn about their services. There was a sensory-calmed area for guests to retreat to if needed. One attendee said, “You know it was a wonderful event when your cheeks are actually sore from so much smiling.” The Princess Avenue Street Party was a fantastic event for over 200 attendees from four residential blocks in Chilliwack Proper.
