The Snake River Stampede is celebrating its 100th Anniversary this year. The rodeo grew from a bucking contest in conjunction with the Annual Harvest Festival, in a roped - off arena where the Nampa Post Office now stands. Spectators stood outside the ropes to watch the bronco busters try to ride their horses. It grew every year and, by 1915, in a more controlled ball field setting, several rodeo events were staged and admission was charged. The Nampa rodeo was born. It was called the Rodeo and Buck Show. A more appropriate name, the Snake River Stampede was added in 1937. In 1950 a new state of the art horseshoe shaped stadium was built. After many changes and many years of planning the World-Famous Snake River Stampede moved into a new home in 1997, on the out skirts of Nampa. Today it is ranked among the top 10 regular season Professional Rodeos in the nation and attracts 60,000 spectators every year, boasting a $400,000.00 payoff for the rodeo competitors. Six performances are held indoors, in air-conditioned comfort at The Ford Idaho Center. Stampede for the Cure - 10 Year Anniversary The program is called “Stampede for the Cure” and the rodeo has raised $600,000 since 2006 for this important, life-saving effort in Treasure Valley. • One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. • Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women. • Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women. • Each year it is estimated that over 220,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die. • Although breast cancer in men is rare, an estimated 2,150 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 410 will die each year. Every woman’s story is different. Yet, that dreaded word “cancer” makes every woman’s story the same. More and more often the outcome is positive and a cure is possible especially in Treasure Valley where there are programs these women can turn to for help in early detection. In spite of all the warnings throughout the media and from doctors, there are numerous reasons why a woman gets to mid life without ever having a mammogram. Maybe she procrastinates, maybe she is afraid of what she might find, or maybe she can’t afford it. Whatever the reason, many women find themselves in their mid to late forties without ever having a mammogram. Women are urged to get yearly mammograms and to do self breast examinations. Although it’s an “in your face” warning, many women ignore it until it is too late. It has been proven that, with early detection, most of them can be completely cured. If you or someone you know is in need, please take advantage of this important program…it’s free and it saves lives. • The Vision of the Future

    The Vision of the Future

THE INTERNATIONAL PROFESSIONAL RODEO ASSOCIATION A REFLECTION OF THE PAST…… The Vision of the Future The Beginnings The International Pro Rodeo Association is proud to continue its legacy of rodeo excellence. Founded in 1957 by two rodeo promoters, the Interstate Rodeo Association, IRA, was formed as a rodeo management organization and a sanctioning body. Concerned with expansion west of the Mississippi River, this new group’s primary interest was to enhance rodeo’s credibility with the news media in the east, where fly-by- night rodeos and Wild West Shows and unregulated contests had done much to discredit the sport. The Interstate Rodeo Association began counting championship points won at its rodeos in 1957 and named their first world champions at the end of that year. Included among the rodeos providing championship points that year was the famous Cowtown, NJ rodeo, the sports first nationally televised event. In 1964, the Interstate Rodeo Association changed its name to the International Rodeo Association, with headquarters in Pauls Valley, OK, where the association was located until April 1993. Office is now headquartered in Oklahoma City near the historic Oklahoma City Stockyards. The word “Professional” was officially added to the association’s name in 1983 giving birth to the next generation of cowboys and cowgirls in the International Professional Rodeo Association. Innovations The International Professional Rodeo Association revolutionized the sport of rodeo in 1964 by creating a Board of Governors including representatives from each segment of rodeo—stock contractors, contestants, fans, producers, and contract performers. This body became the association’s rule and policymaking body.

    It's the 50Th!

UT Martin Rodeo News THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE AT MARTIN March 2018 It’s the 50th! We are gearing up for the 50th Annual UT Martin Rodeo beginning April 12 - 14. Last year, UTM was chosen as the Rodeo of the Year by the Ozark Region for the twelfth year in a row (12 out of 12 years!). We have been setting attendance records the past few years during the rodeo and are working hard to keep that going. Coach Luthi remarked, “It’s always a lot of fun to host our home rodeo, and especially this year with all the excitement with it being the 50th. I don’t think everyone realizes how much work goes on behind the scenes to make this happen. So many people play huge roles from selling ads and tickets, putting out posters, hanging signs in the arena and the hundreds of other details it takes to set up the arena and produce the rodeo.” Garrett Yerigan is returning as the rodeo announcer. No stranger to the big stage, Garrett set a record in 2014 as the youngest announcer ever at the International Finals Rodeo, has announced the National Junior High Rodeo Finals and many other professional and college rodeos. The new funny man this year is Dusty Myers. “I love meeting new people and traveling and I love nothing more than being able to put a smile on not only kids’ faces, but their parents also. If I can make someone laugh and they forget about everything else for a while that makes my day.” All his hard work and passion for his career has paid off with four ‘Clown of the Year’ titles under his belt and being the barrel man at the IFR five times.
