The "CRACKSHOT'' Daylight Enlarger. I 1I !. I The "Crackshot" Daylight Enlarger is a really cheap box form Enlarger, constructed throughout of wood. Low-priced Enlargers are usually made of stout cardboard, and although they look all right for a time, they have little or no chance of lasting. The "Crackshot" Enlarger is an advance on anything that has ever been offered in cheap Enlargers. It is sound, serviceable and absolutely reliable. It is covered in a hard leather "I grained material. There is a leather handle for carrying, and the pull-out II I wooden slide for the bromide paper is grooved on three sides so that a blank sheet of glass can be put over the bromide paper to keep it flat. On every hand, when the grey mist is on the city, most unusual pictures may be had which lend themselves to the artistic temperament. U nsightly buildings become things of weird beauty, all the poetry of vague and delicate suggestion lingers and hovers amongst our city piles, giving them a dignity and grandeur never observed in the clear daytime. Of course, in this as in everything else, there are many opinions. vVe, like the writer, think there are many otherwise good operators that carry this feature of picture making to the point where it becomes a fad . On the other hand, there are many who lessen interest rn their work by having every part of equal importance, by having a perfectly flat field due to focussing too fine. \Vhen we look upon the beautiful landscape described by our corres pondent, we do not see all of that landscape at one time. There is some particular point of peculiar interest, so much so in fact that we cannot tear our eyes from it for any great length of time. That is the point that should receive the sharpest focus. Then we have what we might call a secondary point of interest, and that should receive its proper value in focussing, and so on through the entire picture. But there is never a landscape in which every object is of equal weight as every other object, and such being the fact, there should be the same plan carried out in the focussing.-The I'. and A . Should they bt: sharp, a clear cut outline of things, beautiful as God made them, or as the faddist would hav~ them? To my notion a picture should be " as near to nature's heart " as is possible. Imagine one of these choice bits of nature as we see them along our country highways and beside the brooks with their rustic bridges, and moss patched rocks, half hidden in a tangle of fern and briar-a picture fit for a king to look upon -scratched and scraped, and splotched until it looks like nothing and means nothing unless it be a monument of a Faddist to bis fad. But, he will tell you, sharpness is not artistic, and to be really artistic, it must be sketchy.
