BECKENHAM COPERS COPE & KANGLEY BRIDGE Character The introduction of the railway in mid-Victorian times saw Beckenham develop from a small village into a town on the edge of suburbia. The majority of dwellings in the area are Victorian with some 1940’s and 50’s flats and houses. On the whole houses tend to have fair sized gardens; however, where there are smaller dwellings and flatted developments there is a lack of available off-street parking. During the later part of the 20th century a significant number of Victorian villas were converted or replaced by modern blocks of flats or housing. Ten conservation areas have been established to help preserve and enhance the appearance of the area reflecting the historic character of the area.

A copy of your revised DPPP is attached to this letter, and will be published on our website along with a copy of this letter. I confirm that we have reviewed your DPPP against the 2009 Guidance “How to write your Disabled People’s Protection Policy: A guide for Train and Station Operators” (the Guidance) and can confirm that your revised DPPP meets the requirements of Condition 5 of your station licence and GB Passenger Statement of National Regulatory Conditions (SNRP). • Send Me! July Sees Many of Our Young People in Shortlands Contemplating Their Future
SHORTLANDS PARISH NEWS St. Mary’s church endeavours to bring the love of God into the everyday lives of the people of Shortlands twwwh.stmareysshorStlands.orgP.uk AJuly 2019N Year 39 Number 7 Send me! July sees many of our young people in Shortlands contemplating their future. They have finished school and exams which will determine future school, university, and work places. They will be thinking about their skills, what they find interesting, and what their inner self, or gut feeling, is calling them to pursue. At St. Mary's we are very fortunate to have a strong Ministry Team of people who felt called to work in different areas of life within the church and the Shortlands community. We are blessed with people who use their God-given gifts to support the church whether through floristry, administrative, gardening, cleaning, music, teaching or catering skills, to name but a few. None of us are special; we are all ordinary people who, over the years, have listened and answered the call from God. Discerning what God wants us to do with our lives isn't easy. Christians have answered Jesus' call to follow Him, just as the disciples did two thousand years ago. It has taken me nearly sixty years to discern God's direction for me. I became a committed Christian as a teen- ager, when I 'promised to serve you to the end', as the hymn goes. I have faithfully done so through the ups and downs of life by listening, finding out, questioning, praying, studying and answering when the call came.

  • Excursion to Sheppey
EXCURSION TO SHEPPEY. 459 Heath, where there is a fine section in an outlier of Blackheath Beds. Towards the base the pebbles had become cemented by iron oxide into a hard conglomerate. Sand occurred below the pebble beds, and between the two was a thin band of allophane ; numerous specimens of this mineral were obtained. The amount of oxide of iron present gave the section a vivid red appearance. In spite of a long search, nothing beyond flint pebbles was found although on previous occasions a few quartzite pebbles of unknown derivation had been obtained by Dr. Hinde. Above the Blackheath Beds was to be seen a quantity of drift material, derived from Blackheath Beds and Thanet Sand. A short walk through a picturesque plantation brought the members to the edge of the dry Chalk valley, and the magnificent view there obtained was thoroughly enjoyed by all. A steep descent was made to the main road, and Upper Warlingham was again reached. Here the members enjoyed the hospitality of the Rev. T. T. Griffith, M.A., amidst the sylvan beauties which surround his home. Hearty votes of thanks to the Director and to the Rev. Mr. Griffith concluded an instructive excursion. REFERE~CES.
