Course Description: !Digital Photography is an introductory level Art course designed to provide a basic understanding of the digital arts experience. It is an introduction to the basic functions of the , digital photography, and photo editing software such as Adobe Photoshop.

Course Objectives: 1. To create digital works of art using a camera and the photo editing software Adobe Photoshop. 2. To explore problems in the creative use and integration of two-dimensional elements such as line, shape, , value and texture. 3. To develop beginning photography skills, concentrating on composition, and lighting.

Responsibilities/Expectations: 1. You are expected to: • Be in class, with the needed materials, when the bell rings! • Show respect for teachers, yourself, and other students while in the classroom. • Be working on your projects at all times during the scheduled class period. • Clean up your workspace and return all supplies to the designated areas before leaving the classroom before the end of the period. 2. Assignments are to be completed outside of class time, and are to be turned in on time. Do not wait until the night before an assignment is due to start it. There is ample time between assignments to have each one completed, on time and to the best of your ability. 3. Use time outside of class to work on projects and assignments. Study hall passes will be given for those of you who have a sincere desire to work extra on projects. 4. Push your own ability. You will succeed only at the rate you challenge yourself. Raise your limits and expectations with each assignment. 5. Take advantage of the knowledge around you. Students can help you to critique and can often assist each other in overcoming difficulties on projects.

Grading Policy: ! Grading will be based on completed drawing assignments, class critiques, drawing portfolio critiques, sketchbook assignments, class participation and written critiques completed within the given time frame.

Late Policy: All projects handed in within a week after the due date will be lowered one letter grade. All late projects handed in beyond a week from the due date will be lowered two letter grades. Projects graded as an F will be averaged into the overall grade as 60 points. Projects not handed in will be averaged into the overall grade as a 0. Grading Components: Class Work-45% A weekly grade will be assigned and a cumulative average given for the end of the marking quarter. Students are expected to be on time and present for the full 80 minutes of class. Eighty minutes of class is considered to be eighty minutes of working time. No class work from any other classes is to be gone during this period. Where there is an absence the student will have until the end of the quarter to make up the extra time. Projects-55% Each project will be completed to the best of your ability and will follow the guidelines of expectations given during the class instruction. In addition, projects will be turned in along with an attached rubric and self critique.

*** Digital can be created using a variety of devices such as , , cell phones, and many other electronic devices with a camera function. Students enrolled in the Digital Photography course are NOT required to purchase a camera.
