Murfreesboro Mayor Rodney Fagan, who attended the meeting, said that it was an open discussion forum to allow local leaders to ask questions. He said most of the county elected officials for Pike County were also invited to the meeting, along with a Farm Bureau representative, Jane Fugitt of the Murfreesboro Chamber of Commerce and Roger Featherston, Superintendent of South Pike County Schools. “She just opened it up to question and answer,” said Fagan, noting that some of the topics included robo calls, for which Rutledge indicated there are things in the works to stop them, especially those with local prefixes. “With the electronic capabilities that are in place today, phones will have the ability to kick out those calls,” he said. Also discussed was an opioid lawsuit that was backed by many of the munici- palities through the Arkansas Municipal League in the state that will help address the epidemic as well as school security in the wake of the recent Florida school shooting and local schools’ ability to enact measures to help protect themselves. Additionally the prescription drug reimbursement issues that are currently plaguing local small-town pharmacies was discussed, and Fagan said that stories of such stores outside of Fred’s or Wal-Mart were feeling the pinch by drug pro- viders and insurance companies was becoming common. A special session of the Arkansas Legislature has been called to discuss the matter further. “We thank her for coming and giving the leaders of the city and county the abil- ity to ask questions about these various topics,” said Fagan. “She is very person- able, and she ate lunch in town afterwards .. she doesn’t have to do any of this, but people aren’t going to go to Little Rock to ask these questions.” Fagan laughed and said Rutledge opened the meeting the same way she always did, stating that any questions were allowed outside her age and weight. “One of those she said you could Google, the other one she said if we got it, she Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge pictured with Murfreesboro Mayor Rodney Fagan (left) and would say it was fake news.” Pike County Judge Dewight Mack.
