TREASURERS' REPORT Although we finish the season showing a reasonable credit balance this has only been made possible by the receipt of our third share of the profit on the Australian match. Expenses in the County games played have again been increasingly heavy and the situation has not been helped by a further drop in gate receipts. Club officiaIs could help in this latter respect by reminding their members a week or so before a home County match and get them to roll along in good numbers to add vocal and financial support to their County XV. CLUB AND SCHOOL SUBSCRIPTIONS The responsible Clùb official is again reminded that subscriptions are due and should be sent to the County Hon. Treasurer on lst September annually. He will also send on for you the R.F.U. subscriptions. Amounts:- CLUBS Cheshire ;E4 4s. Od. SCHOOLS Cheshire lOs. 6d. RF.U. f2 Os. Od. RF.U. fI Os. Od. Individual Members New members are very welcome and help from clubs in obtaining them will be much appreciated. RUGBY UNION REFEREES. W. G. HOWARD, Hon. Treasurer. Middlewood, Noctorum Road, Birkenhead. COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH RESULTS Once again the season got off to a bad start, but after the game against Durham the Side seemed to knit, and showed great team spirit, finishing up winning the remaining four matches of the Northern Group, and thereby forcing a re-play with Durham. Unfortunately, when we went to Durham there was a number of players who were not a hundred per cent fit, but owing to the spirit which had developed, insisted on playing in the match, and although good rugby was played, aIl our movements seemed to end in favour of the opposition. The prospects for next season look very promising, and if the same spirit cao be reached before the season commences, one feels that we could do that !ittle bit better. 29th October Cheshire 8 14 Durham (Home) 5th November Cheshire 9 8 Lancashire (Home) 19th November Cheshire 21 5 Cumberland & Westmorland (Away) 26th November Cheshire 9 0 Yorkshire (Away) 10th December Cheshire 17 5, Northumberland (Away) 21st January Cheshire 0 27 Durham (Away) (Replay) The following players represented the County in Championship matches during the season: Cum'land U.A.U. Clubs are requested not to encourage the arrangement or organisation of Rugby Football matches to be played in the close season. Your Committee have considered this matter very carefully and have obtained a ruling from the Rugby Union. Only in very special or extraordinary circumstances will the arrangement of matches to be played between the Ist May and 31st August receive consideration. It has been decided by your Committee that although the playing of Rugby Football on Sundays is not to be encouraged it is unnecessary for Clubs to apply for permission to arrange such matches. TRIALS At the end of the season trials were held and the Selectors were able to see a considerably larger number of players than under the system which was worked in the pasto From the Selectors' point of view these trials were quite useful, and it was suggested that they should be run in a similar fashion for the following season. Cumberland and Westmorland Won 9-6 The game arranged against Nottingham, Lincolnshire and Derby at Nottingham on 4th January was cancelled due to ground conditions .. The 19 Group side had three marginal defeats and one marginal victory. The northem tour was a great success, the quality of the Rugby in the Northumberland game being quite superb from both sides. The defeat of Cumberland and Westmorland was most creditable, if somewhat lucky, as it was their first defeat. Our touring side was weakened by the non-inclusion of boys who were taking part in the Roehampton Sevens. England Trials:P. Lloyd, A. J. Richardson, D. F. Goulden, K. White and N. W. Hodgldnson aU played in England trials. N. W. Hodgkinson played for England V. Wales at Cardiff. Coaching Course: A coaching course was organised by the Cheshire Education Authority and held at Aslager College of Education. Thirty-four boys (19 Group) attended a most successful course. 15 GROUP The Anoual Rugby Coaching Course was held at the Alsager College of Education, Crewe, during August 1966 and was attended by 40 boys who were eligible to play for the County 15 Group team dliring the season 1966J67. The chief coach in charge of the course was Mr. Alan Ashcroft. The AllOuaI Seven a Side Tournament was held at the Old Caldeians R.U.P.C. on the 22nd March, 1967. Twenty-two schools entered teams into the competition which was won by Caldy Grammar School who beat Ellesmere Port Grammar School in the final. The trophies, which were donated by Mr. L. Thomason, were presented to the winning school by Mr. A. Stewart of the Old Caldeians Club. Four county games were played during the season and the results were: Cheshire V. Shropshire at Whitchurch Lost 6-14 Cheshire V. North Wales at New Brighton Won 12- 3 Cheshire V. Northumberland at Newcastle Won 5- 3 Cheshire v. Cumberland at Kendal Won 12- 6 It is proposed to include Durham on the fixture Iist for next season bringing the fixture Iist to five county games for the season. An allOuaI grant is now given to the committee by the Cheshire Education Committee to assist in the running of under 15 rugby in the County.
