Après une édition 2018 réussie, le festival revient avec une programmation riche, explorant les différentes esthétiques des musiques actuelles et à destination de tous les publics : Fatboy Slim, Tricky, 2 Many DJ’s (DJ SET), Shaka Ponk, Charlie Winston, Worakls Orchestra, Jacob Banks, Gaëtan Roussel, Marina P. & Stand High Patrol, Blackstar (Yasiin BEY X Talib KWELI) Live Band, Youssoupha, SCH, RK, Grandmaster Flash, Caballero & Jeanjass, Josman. Chorus relève à nouveau le défi d’affirmer sa dimension urbaine en investissant le lieu phare de la politique culturelle départementale des Hauts-de-Seine. La Seine Musicale accueillera l’événement, une semaine durant, avec une formule qui confirmera l’évidence du projet au sein de cet écrin architectural impressionnant. Premier évènement de la saison des festivals, Chorus se destine à devenir une expérience musicale indoor incontournable. Nouveauté 2019 : ODELA, la 6ème scène du festival Le festival Chorus offre une carte blanche à ODELA sur une nouvelle scène extérieure, spécialement pensée pour l'occasion. Le collectif qui se cache derrière le Créa’Parc, partenaire du Département des Hauts-de-Seine, se mobilise auprès des équipes de Chorus pour proposer un line up déluré et une scénographie immersive et éclatante. 8 artistes, bar, espace chill, de 18h à 23h30 les 6 et 7 avril ! Une application et un nouveau site internet pour améliorer l’expérience des festivaliers La nouvelle version du site internet du festival est en ligne avec un nouveau design. Toutes les informations sur la programmation, les artistes, les animations et la billetterie sont présentées. L'appli pour Smartphone est également disponible. Complémentaire au site internet, elle propose une expérience utilisateur unique : elle offre à chacun la possibilité de partager des infos sur les artistes, les événements, choisir ses concerts favoris, créer des alertes, se retrouver entre amis... Informations pratiques Du 3 au 7 avril 2019 : 5 jours de concerts à La Seine Musicale. Mercredi 3 avril : la journée entièrement dédiée au Chorus des Enfants (le reste de la programmation à retrouver les samedi et dimanche). Vendredi 5 avril 2019 : Passage sur scène des groupes de la « Sélection du Prix Chorus 2019 » à La Seine Musicale. Le Département des Hauts-de-Seine renouvelle sa politique tarifaire en mettant en place un PASS 3 JOURS à 75 €. Les places sont en vente sur : chorus.hauts-de-seine.fr/billetterie Le Festival Chorus s’inscrit dans la vallée de la culture des Hauts-de-Seine : une politique culturelle en direction du plus grand nombre à travers une politique tarifaire attractive, la mise en place d’événements, d’actions et de dispositifs pour tous les âges et tous les goûts, dont certains dédiés à la formation des spectateurs d’aujourd’hui et de demain et à l’accompagnement des talents émergents. 4 PROGRAMMATION Vendredi 5 avril FATBOY SLIM Grand Seine Dans tous les styles musicaux, il existe des légendes vivantes. En matière de musiques électroniques, Fatboy Slim fait office d'une de ces références absolues. Icône de la scène anglaise des années 90, il devient rapidement l'un des plus grands artistes électro de la scène mondiale. Le vendredi 5 avril, ce sera l'une des rares occasions de le voir se produire en France ! ©Norman_Cook TRICKY Grande Seine Tricky est considéré comme l’un des piliers du trip hop, mouvement musical des années 1990. Il lance son premier album Maxinquaye en 1995 qui se catapulte directement au sommet des charts. L’album est nommé pour le Mercury Prize et fut élu album de l’année par la revue musicale NME. Musicalement, Tricky a cherché très tôt à affirmer sa différence. Il mélange notamment rock, hip-hop, musique électronique et musique soul. Avec son dernier album Ununiform, il relève de nouveau le niveau pour explorer ses propres zones d’ombre. 2MANYDJS (DJ SET) Grande Seine 2manydjs est le nom du binôme de DJ belges, les frères Stephen et David Dewaele, également membres fondateurs du groupe d'électro-rock Soulwax. Pour ceux d'entre vous qui ne connaissent pas Soulwax ou 2manydjs..., leur histoire musicale est riche en moments forts. Fils d’un célèbre DJ de la radio belge, le duo a formé un groupe de rock appelé Soulwax, qui a sorti plusieurs disques acclamés et a fait de nombreuses tournées. À ce moment-là, les frères étaient également en train de mixer sous les noms The Flying Dewaele Brothers & 2manyDJs à la fois dans les clubs, sur la radio belge et au-delà. En 2002, 2manyDJs, leur premier album de mixages acclamé par la foule, a été publié sur Radio Soulwax. Le volume 2 a été publié dans un monde sans méfiance. Cela a changé le visage des compilations dance mix pour toujours en associant des centaines de classiques rock, électro, dance, hip hop et autres du fond de leurs voûtes. Et d’une manière ou d’une autre, ils avaient réussi à faire ce que tant de gens n’avaient jamais fait auparavant: vous apporter ce plaisir et ce chaos du club chez vous. GLITTER٥٥رثيلڭ Parvis a débarqué à Lille GLITTER٥٥ڭ ل ي ثر ,Originaire de Rabat au Maroc avec ses racines Chaabi et ses sélections électroniques affûtées. Aujourd’hui basée à Paris, elle diffuse un son qui brasse ses influences nord africaines avec une techno aérienne et des effluves disco cosmiques. Résidente sur Rinse France, elle s’est faite une place aux platines des meilleurs spots à Paris (Garage, Bellevilloise…), Marseille (On Air), Lyon (Le Sucre), Rabat ou Beyrouth… et sur celles de festivals pointus (Electron, Coconut, Chateau Sonic, Riddim Collision…). ©Antoine_Henault 5 AMMAR 808 Parvis AMMAR 808, produit et développé par le producteur en pleine ascension Sofyann Ben Youssef (Bargou 08, Kel Assouf) vous plonge au coeur d'un futurisme nord-africain aux racines profondes. Après la tournée d’AMMAR 808 & The Maghreb United de l’été 2018, en 2019 AMMAR 808 resserre son style autour du Targ, musique traditionnelle presque oubliée du Nord-Ouest tunisien. AMMAR 808 prolonge l’esprit de Bargou 08 dans une veine électro aux accents futuristes. Cheb Hassen Tej (chant, gasba) et Lassaed Bougalmi (gasba, zokra) entourent AMMAR 808 sur scène. SOFIANE SAID & MAZALDA Parvis Sofiane Saidi débarque avec Mazalda, un groupe de six musiciens, pour faire danser et vibrer en mêlant les sons d'aujourd'hui aux ondes mystiques du Nord de l'Afrique, les basslines des synthés Roland, le saz dopé à l'overdrive, la gasbah électronique et les synthés-zurnas, la batterie branchée sur une derbouka-beat imbattable... Sofiane Saidi fait souffler un vent nouveau sur la musique maghrébine. Il arrive des profondeurs du Raï, de Sidi Bel Abbes, le fief du raï aux guitares saturées. ©AKAKIR-Walid Bouchouchi MIND WAVE Scène Tutti Poésie pop, électrique, éclectique, aux confins du rock et du trip-hop, MIND WAVE s'agite, s'élève, obsède... Influencé par des chanteurs comme Sting et Paul Mc Cartney, et par les sonorités des productions reggae et soul des années 70, Mind Wave crée des ponts, et provoque un engouement général. Voir présentation p.23. 6 Samedi 6 avril SHAKA PONK Grande Seine THE MONKADELIC TOUR PART 2 Après avoir écumé les Zéniths et les festivals de France, retourné par deux fois l’AccorHotels Arena de Paris et rempli en moins d’une semaine 9 Cigale à Paris, les geek survitaminés de Shaka Ponk reviennent pour le MonkAdelic Tour Part II ! Un show spectaculaire, une énergie fracassante, du punk, du rock, et des créations numériques à couper le souffle ! Venez les voir remuer la Seine Musicale ! ©Denis_Rouvre CHARLIE WINSTON Parvis Le quatrième album de Charlie Winston « Square 1 » est sorti. Une expression qui désigne en anglais l’idée de recommencer à zéro. Charlie Winston dévoile sous un nouveau jour les thèmes récurrents de ses albums, de l’art de vivre aux sujets plus engagés comme celui des réfugiés politiques. WORAKLS ORCHESTRA Auditorium Jeune prodige français, Worakls est avant tout compositeur. Issu d’une famille de musiciens, il apprend le piano dès l’âge de 3 ans. Après avoir étudié au conservatoire, il aborde la musique électronique, qui lui permet d’ajouter à son sens de la mélodie puissance et onirisme. Les morceaux de Worakls sont devenus des classiques d’un style musical dont il a changé les codes. Créateur du label Hungry Music avec ses amis N’to et Joachim Pastor, il puise sa force dans une multitude de ©samy_ait_chikh genres, tels que les musiques de film et classiques. Après plus de 10 ans d’attente, Worakls sort aujourd’hui son premier album solo intitulé Orchestra, et attaque une tournée européenne accompagnée par 20 musiciens classiques. Plus qu’un premier album, plus qu’un show, c’est l’aboutissement d’un artiste inimitable, dont les inspirations touchent toutes les générations de mélomanes.

    Raja Mohan 21M.775 Prof. DeFrantz From Bronx’s Hip-Hop to Bristol’s Trip-Hop As Tricia Rose describes, the birth of hip-hop occurred in Bronx, a marginalized city, characterized by poverty and congestion, serving as a backdrop for an art form that flourished into an international phenomenon. The city inhabited a black culture suffering from post-war economic effects and was cordoned off from other regions of New York City due to modifications in the highway system, making the people victims of “urban renewal.” (30) Given the opportunity to form new identities in the realm of hip-hop and share their personal accounts and ideologies, similar to traditions in African oral history, these people conceived a movement whose worldwide appeal impacted major events such as the Million Man March. Hip-hop’s enormous influence on the world is undeniable. In the isolated city of Bristol located in England arose a style of music dubbed trip-hop. The origins of trip-hop clearly trace to hip-hop, probably explaining why artists categorized in this genre vehemently oppose to calling their music trip-hop. They argue their music is hip-hop, or perhaps a fresh and original offshoot of hip-hop. Mushroom, a member of the trip-hop band Massive Attack, said, "We called it lover's hip hop. Forget all that trip hop bullshit. There's no difference between what Puffy or Mary J Blige or Common Sense is doing now and what we were doing…” (Bristol Underground Website) Trip-hop can abstractly be defined as music employing hip-hop, soul, dub grooves, jazz samples, and break beat rhythms.

Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.

    The Metaphysics of Crackle: Afrofuturism and Hauntology Feature Article Mark Fisher Goldsmiths, University of London / University of East London (UK) Abstract There has always been an intrinsically “hauntological” dimension to recorded music. But Derrida’s concept of hauntology has gained a new currency in the 21st century, when music has lost its sense of futurism, and succumbed to the pastiche- and retro- time of postmodernity. The emergence of a 21st century sonic hauntology is a sign that “white” culture can no longer escape the temporal disjunctions that have been constitutive of the Afrodiasporic experience since Africans were first abducted by slavers and projected from their own lifeworld into the abstract space-time of Capital. Time was always-already out of joint for the slave, and Afrofuturism and hauntology can now be heard as two versions of the same condition.     Esben and the Witch Biography Daniel Copeman – guitar, electronics Rachel Davies – vocals, bass Thomas Fisher – guitar, keys Since forming in Brighton in 2008, Esben and the Witch have forged a sound that springs forth from minds soaked in influences far and beyond any standard set of musical touchstones. Nature and literature, art and science, history and the unknown – the trio eschews the everyday for inspiration drawn from sources weird and wonderful, as well as the occasional Scott Walker and PJ Harvey record. Announcing their arrival with the demo-cum-EP, 33, which they sold at gigs and distributed online, led to an avalanche of coverage from British broadsheets to US blogs. They followed this unexpected success with a split release on the Dance to the Radio label, contributing the track ‘Skeleton Swoon’ to a 12” in the autumn of 2009, and their first official single, Lucia, at the Precipice, saw light of day as a 7” through the Too Pure Singles Club in February 2010. Whilst their music was finding its way out there so were they. Sharing stages, both home and abroad, with a wealth of critically acclaimed artists including The xx, Wild Beasts, Efterklang, The Big Pink, Deerhunter and Sian Alice Group helped them find their feet as a live proposition. It was with the release of their debut 7” that they ventured out on their first headline UK tour and in the summer of 2010, they took their ever-evolving live set to numerous European festivals including Latitude, Field Day, Dockville (Hamburg) and London Calling (Amsterdam). The second half of 2010 also saw Esben and the Witch find a permanent home with a worldwide deal with legendary indie, Matador Records, to become the label’s only UK signing and placing them alongside Sonic Youth and Cat Power on their impressive roster.

    An Ode To Better Times: New Album Reviews Music | Bittles’ Magazine: The music column from the end of the world In the wrong hands, nostalgia can be little more than a marketing tool, something which can be watered down, bottled up and sold. Yet, when done right it can arouse a wealth of emotions in the listener. There is a distinct tinge of nostalgia to this week’s album reviews. From Kölsch’s homage to his teenage years on 1989 to 90s indebted new LPs from Bicep and Steffi. And if that isn’t enough, we have Dimitri From Paris delving into the Salsoul label’s archives, Lone’s wistful leap into the DJ Kicks series, and the return of 90s trip hop icon Tricky. By JOHN BITTELS So, conjure a favourite cherished memory and let us begin… Belfast duo Bicep have, through hard work and an abundance of talent, become one of the most in demand house acts around today. Their killer DJ sets, cheeky edits, and releases for labels such as Throne Of Blood, Aus and their own Feel My Bicep have seen their star rise and rise. This autumn the duo step into the album format with their self titled debut LP. Sounding like a mixture of Airdrawndagger era Sasha and Aphex Twin’s revered Selected Ambient Works 85-92, the album pairs the best of 90s progressive house and IDM with style. Opener Orca is suitably epic, tough yet with a melancholic resonance that lingers long in the mind. Next track Glue is even better; soft breakbreaks and subdued melodies join forces to create something which stirs the very soul.
