Peer Review in 2014: More Supports Than Neglects EDITORIAL Editing, Writing, & Publishing http://dx.doi.org/10.3346/jkms.2015.30.1.120 • J Korean Med Sci 2015; 30: 120-125 Peer Review in 2014: More Supports than Neglects Sung-Tae Hong Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Korean Medical Science (http://orcid.org/0000-0002-0300-1944) At the time of editing the first issue of 2015, Volume 30 Number were withdrawn by authors. For fair and qualified review, JKMS 1 of the Journal of Korean Medical Science (JKMS), the editors invited 625 specialists in medical and biological fields as peer and editorial staffs heartfully thank all authors and reviewers reviewers. The editor reviewed reviewers’ responses consider- for their contribution to publication. Summarizing the journal ing both efforts and contents and scored them on a scale of 1 statistics from December 1st in 2013 to December 1st in 2014, (poor) to 5 (excellent). Of 519 reviewers, 6 was evaluated as score of total 1,340 submissions, JKMS have published 340 articles 5, 87 as score 4, 317 as score 3, 105 as score 2, and 4 as score 1. and accepted 58 articles to be published. About 75% of total Top reviewers, who got ≥ score 4 or reviewed ≥ 3 times in 2014, submissions were rejected on editorial or peer review, and 3% are marked with an asterisk on the following reviewer list. However, the literature on civil religion is divided between those who attribute it to bottom-up cultural spontaneity and those who see it as an ideological top-down construction. Moreover, there has been a relative lack of scholarly attention to Korean civil religion. This paper addresses both issues by arguing that a strong civil religion indeed exists in the country and that it has been an important part of the “nation-building” process since the founding of the Republic of Korea in 1948. The paper highlights how a succession of authoritarian regimes (1948–1987) successfully mobilized a strong civil religion for political purposes. The resulting civil religion targeted economic growth as the national goal to overcome all social ills, focused on the country’s ethnic and cultural homogeneity to boost national confidence and pride, exalted its traditional religions, especially Confucianism, as repositories of Korean traditional culture, and rendered sacred meanings to national symbols such as the flag and national anthem. Even after democratization, Korean civil religion remains largely ideological, as the Korean government is heavily involved in framing, planning, sponsoring, and promoting the country’s civil religion.

Paraffin sections were deparaffinized and dehydrated. Antigen of TonEBP and COX-2 was retrieved by citrate and peroxidase and that of Ki-67 was retrived by EDTA and peroxidase in appropriate time for each antigen. Anti-ki-67 antibodies (12202T, CST), anti-COX-2 antibodies (SP21, Thermo), and anti-TonEBP antibody 40 were used for IHC with optimized condition.

For the last 10 July 2018 months since we were appointed as the new KACA’s officers, we have worked relentlessly to plan the upcoming 40th anniversary conference while carrying out regular KACA businesses as well. All the tasks, which once seemed overwhelming, were flawlessly done or close to completion thanks to the great teamwork. In this issue: The KACA 40th anniversary conference is around the corner. For the past 10 months, some of dedicated long-time members have had multiple Skype meetings (which often lasted over an hour), from which truly wonderful ideas 01 President’s Message were produced.
