about the event Each year the Oregon Consular Corps, the Port of Portland, the City of Portland and the State of Oregon, along with our esteemed associates in international trade and business, host a fund-raising gala as part of Oregon’s World Trade Week. Titled Celebrate Trade, this elegant dinner and networking reception will take place in the Kridel Ballroom at the Portland Art Museum on Monday, May 18th, 2020. The event raises funds for the Oregon Consular Corps Scholarship Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which provides scholarships to 10 students at five Oregon universities. These funds support Oregon’s next generation of leaders as they study abroad, gain international experience and expand their cultural competence, leading to their role as ambassadors for Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. Celebrate Trade also honors the significant contributions that Oregon’s trade-sector companies make to our region’s economic vitality and quality of life. International Trade awards are presented in several categories. In addition, the Oregon Consular Corps selects an organization or individual for special recognition. Join us as we help build the next generation of international leaders 2019 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS How your participation makes a difference Funds raised through ticket sales and sponsorships for Celebrate Trade underwrite two scholarships of $2,500 each to international studies majors at Lewis & Clark College, Oregon State University, Portland State University, the University of Oregon and the University of Portland. These students must develop international relations and language skills, cultural awareness and the ability to grasp the opportunities and challenges of a global economy as they prepare to become the next generation of business and community leaders. At present, 94 percent of the world’s consumers live outside of the United States. There are now more than eighty Oregon Consular Corps Scholarship Fund recipients in science, medicine, business, international nonprofits, university faculties, research and government throughout the world. At Celebrate Trade the Oregon Consular Corps also prioritizes recognition of Oregon businesses that are leveraging the strengths of the region’s trade- based economy and expanding their markets around the globe. Consider this: • International trade supports more than 505,700 Oregon jobs. • $22.3 billion of goods were exported from Oregon in 2018—a 1.8 percent increase from 2017. Oregon exports represent 9.3 percent of the state’s GDP over the past decade. • 1 in 5 manufacturing jobs in Oregon are export-related. • Oregon trades with nearly 150 countries around the world. • Oregon exports more goods that it imports, making it one of only 12 states that have a trade surplus. past international business award recipients More than 6,000 Oregon businesses — large and small — sell their products internationally. Celebrate Trade honors several of them, shining the spotlight on their successes and inspiring others that may have global ambitions. 2019 2015 Alta Planning and Design Fall Creek Farm and Nursery Vigor Industrial Craftport Weaver Seed of Oregon Simple BBVA Michael G.
