Alexandria Is the Mermaid of the Miditerranean Sea and a Mixture of the Glamour of the East and the Culture of the West. It Stan Alexandria is the mermaid of the miditerranean Sea and a mixture of the glamour of the East and the culture of the West. It stands magnificently on the coasts of the Mediterranean Sea as a blue pearl coated with the splendor history has given it and the grandeur of the philosophers and scientists who had taken it as a residence long centuries ago. Alexandria is the city whose gorgeous coasts extend to more than 40 km, and gets the fresh Nile water coming from northwest Delta and Mariout Lake. It enjoys a unique nature, which bestows on it a wonderful weather all year long. Alexandria is Egypt’s second most important and largest city and the biggest seaport on the Mediterranean Sea. It houses treasures of ancient landmarks that date back to more than 5000 years. It has a lot of ancient and modern tourist attractions, such as castles, museums and Pharaonic, Greco-Roman and Islamic monuments. Moreover, the manifestations of tolerance stand side by side through mosques, churches and ancient temples to make of Alexandria a rare cultural and reli- gious beacon. Alexandria was one of the ancient world’s most important cities. It was well- known for its bright marble buildings and awesome palaces, which made of it a masterpiece of no less status than that of Rome or Athens. One of its distin- guished cultural landmarks is Bibliotheca Alexandrina that was rebuilt to serve as an international cultural and civilizational edifice. The city is famous for its many soft sand beaches, which extend from Al-Aga- mi in the west to Abu Qir in the east. Thus, it has become the most important Egyptian summer resort visited by millions from all over the world. 3 ABNAA ALWATAN Alexandria in History ter the advent of Christianity by Saint Marcos Alexandria was playing a pioneering role the Apostle in 45 BC. AAHA = Amicale Alexandrie Hier et Aujourd'hui George PSAROS Return to Alexandria (17-28 November 2004) “The best way of seeing it is to wander aimlessly about” - E.M.Forster Cahier no 47 October 2005 Sandro Manzoni, chemin de Planta 31, 1223 Cologny, Suisse Return to Alexandria (17-28 November 2004) Cahier AAHA no 47 I left Alex in 1952 to attend university in England. Now I was returning with my wife Annette who had been listening to me, my relatives, and assorted Old Victorians wailing about La Belle Époque in Alex for nearly forty years. Annette is very patient and very polite. Our departure from London was not straightforward. Having duly proceeded to the departure gate for our Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt we were informed 15 minutes before take-off that our plane was not going anywhere for the foreseeable future. The luggage had to be reclaimed and we queued for 3 hours to get rescheduled to Athens by BA next day. We befriended an anxious Mrs. Suliman who was also hoping to get to Alexandria some day. So our first night away from home was spent in London at one of the living machines they call hotels. Next morning we set off again and duly arrived at Athens airport where Mrs. Suliman insisted I call Delta Hotel on her mobile. Just as well, because Lufthansa had failed to notify anyone in Alex that we had missed the Frankfurt connecting flight because of the cancellation of their London flight. Our flights cost £ 640.25. We disembarked from our Egyptair jet at Nouzha and I felt immediately that this trip was going to be a success after all.

There was a 6.75% year-on-year rise in revenues to USD5.46bn in 2014,compared to USD5.11bn recorded in 2013, as the waterway benefited from delays to the opening of the Panama Canal expansion. The country's location on the Mediterranean and Red Seas affords it access to major East-West shipping routes, and its Suez Canal-based ports feature as stops on a number of these routes. Egypt's Suez Canal ensures that the country is a major player in the global maritime sphere. The interim government has received substantial financial assistance for Saudi Arabia, UAE and Kuwait - indicating regional support. The Suez Canal enjoyed strong throughput growth in 2014. The Egyptian infrastructure sector is picking up, which will boost dry bulk and project cargo volumes at Egypt's ports and on its roads. 2 Invest in Egypt Logistics & Transportation SOCIOECONOMIC IMPORTANCE A new navigation channel could increase throughput at East Port Said. Rising Suez Canal charges should see a further growth in revenues. The Suez Canal is benefiting from delays to the Panama Canal expansion, attracting new services. Abdel-Halim , I.H. Saleh a Department of Basic and Applied Sciences, College of Engineering and Technology, The Arab Academy for Sciences and Technology and Maritime Transport, P.O. Box 1029, Alexandria, Egypt b Department of Environmental Studies, Institute of Graduate Studies and Research, Alexandria University, P.O. Box 832, EL-Shatby, Alexandria, Egypt Abstract In the present study, 52 sediment samples were collected from 14 sites along the area extending from west of Alexandria (El-MAX) to the eastern side of the Rosetta promontory (the terminal of the Nile River with the Mediterranean Sea). The collected samples 226 228 40 137 were analyzed for radioactive contents. Ra, Ra, K and Cs were detected. The distribution of radionuclide activity and mass concentrations of Th and U displayed a specific pattern that reflects the mineralogical formations and beach stability. Radiological hazards were investigated by calculating the following radiological parameters: the radium equivalent, radiation hazard index and annual effective dose. It was observed that the levels of radiological parameter are higher in eastern locations than in western ones. In addition, the western side displayed radiological parameters higher than the recommended world-wide values. © 2015 The Authors.
