Scope and Content Letters sent to Innes Doyle by Arthur Conan Doyle. Innes was Arthur's younger brother and spent periods of time living with him. The letters are very open and Arthur discusses many important matters with his brother, such as feelings for Jean Leckie whilst his wife is still alive.

Arthur sends Innes constant updates in Touie's final days.

Innes' wife and children lived at Arthur's home in Crowborough whilst Innes was fighting during the First World War and many of the letters mention them. They also talk about Arthur's literary work, politics and the progress of the Boer War and the First World War.

In one of the letters Waller tells Arthur what a good person should be. A note has been added, possibly by Adrian Conan Doyle, saying that this letter had a big effect on the young Arthur.

Bryan Charles Waller was a lodger of the Conan Doyle family in Edinburgh. He encouraged Arthur to go to medical school and helped him to train for the entrance exams. Arthur's mother, Mary Doyle, lived in a cottage on Waller's estate at Masongill, Yorkshire from 1882 until 1917.

Moldavia, 1913. On the back is autographed ‘You are sweet’ and a note from Jean Conan Doyle reading ‘The above written by Arthur when on board. May 25th, 1913’.
