1 A Minerology for the Anthropocene Pierre FLUCK Institut Universitaire de France / Docteur-ès-Sciences / geologist and archeologist / Emeritus Professor at Université de Haute-Alsace This essay is a follow-up on « La signature stratigraphique de l’Anthropocène », which is also available on HAL- Archives ouvertes. Table of contents 1. Introduction: neoformation minerals in ancient mining galleries 2. Minerals from burning coal mines 3. Minerals from the mineral processing industry 4 ...and metallurgy 5. Neoformations in slags 6. Speciation of heavy metals in soils 7. Metal objects in their archaeological environment, or affected by fire 8. Neoformations in or on the surface of building stones 9. A mineralogy of materials. The “miracle of the potter”. The minerals in cement 10. A mineralogy of the biosphere? Conclusions Warning. This paper is written to be read by both specialists and a wider audience. However, it contains many mineral names. While these may resonate in the minds of mineralogists or collectors, they may not be as meaningful to less discerning readers. Such readers should not be scared, for they may find excellent encyclopaedic records on the web, including chemical composition, crystallographic properties and description of each of these species. This is why we have decided not to include further information in this paper. Acknowledgements. I would like to thank the mineralogists with whom I have had the opportunity to maintain fruitful exchanges for a long time: my pupil Hubert Bari, Éric Asselborn, Cédric Lheur, François Farges. And I would like to honour the memories of René Weil (1901-1983), my master in descriptive mineralogy, and of Jacques Geffroy (1918-1993), pupil of Alfred Lacroix, my master in metallogeny.

  • 1000 Voices for Peace in a Nutshell
Peace is about much more than ending war Flanders Festival Brussels commemorates the Great War 1 2 1,000 Voices for Peace in a nutshell On 9 November 2014, Flanders Festival Brussels will be joined by over 1000 singers and the Brussels Philharmonic to commemorate the Great War. Singers and choirs from countries involved in the conflict at the time will be making an inspiring statement for peace. Art, and especially music and song, is what binds our world together! The great Polish composer, Krzysztof Penderecki, also subscribes to the urgency of our statement for peace. He has created an oratorio for peace that will be performed for the first time on 9 November. Since his world-famous 1961 Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima, the fortunes of the world have become an inseparable part of his work. 1000 Voices for Peace also gives choirs from Belgium and the world an opportunity to fraternise with each other. Between November 3 and 9, we and many Belgian choirs will be welcoming fifteen choirs from all around the globe. With 15 fraternising concerts in Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia on November 5, 6 & 7, each choir will give colour and its best to the 1000 Voices for Peace narrative. Herman van Rompuy, president of the European Council, is patron of the project. Herman Van Rompuy has been the head of Europe for two whole mandates. A mission which is just right for him. The 31rst of December 2014 his mandate ends, but not his personal quest. The President is convinced that culture plays an important role for being a bridge between countries and nations.

PRESS HANDBOOK Eurovision Choir 2019 Press, Delegation & Production Handbook DISTRIBUTION: Press, Delegations, Production Dear friends, It is with great pride and excitement that I welcome you to the second edition of Eurovision Choir, here in Gothenburg. Those of us who were fortunate enough to be involved in the production during Latvian Television’s first edition in Riga hold many fond memories of launching Eurovision’s newest competition format. The show was spectacular, the choirs stunning and the music sublime. But what remains most strongly in my memory is the unique atmosphere of the backstage area around the show. I recall a festive atmosphere, almost a party, as nine choirs traded songs across the dressing room walls. And indeed, this is a festival – a festival of the beauty and diversity of choral singing in Europe, and of what can be achieved by joining our voices. So it seems true – singing is good for the soul. Thanks to those of you who have made the journey to attend Eurovision Choir 2019 in Gothenburg. Good luck to all the choirs taking part and enjoy the show! Jon Ola Sand Executive Supervisor, Eurovision Song Contest & Eurovision Live Events. Romantic Golf * 4 nights – Cascais 1st day Arrival at Lisbon International Airport Transfer and check-in at Penha Longa Resort Immortalized as the most beautiful place in all of Europe, the verdant Portuguese hills near Sintra provide a fairytale haven for relaxation and rejuvenation. In the 16th century, kings and noblemen built exquisite summer palaces here. Happily, one of the most stunning examples of palatial Golden Age romanticism now serves as the centerpiece for the 500-acre Penha Longa Hotel Spa & Golf Resort. Today visitors from the world over come to be treated like royalty and enjoy an unmatched combination of natural beauty, gentle climate and casual elegance. Dinner at Arola Restaurant Innovative, fashionable and defiantly cool, Arola is relaxed and chilled. A disciple of Ferrán Adrià of Barcelona with whom he worked for eight years, Sergi Arola’s (2 Michelin Stars) twin passions are music and food and he enjoys a rare culinary pedigree. Arola’s menus offer a creative and contemporary twist to Portuguese cuisine, mixing tradition and heritage with his inimitable modern approach. Like his mentor, Arola seeks to give diners unexpected contrasts of flavour and texture with the ultimate aim of provoking, surprising and delighting his guests. Food will be available through the day and during dinner Arola’s take on the Portuguese tapas will vie with more complicated main courses. Wines will be served from a transparent cellar, situated mid-restaurant. 2nd Day Round at Penha Longa Atlantic Course Two courses, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., offer world- class play in unforgettable surroundings. The 18-hole Atlantic Course, one of the highest rated in Europe, is famed throughout the world for the remains of a huge arched Roman aqueduct incorporated along the fairways fringes.
