January for 4/5 E Guess what? We have new student! Introducing Lily! She started in our class on January 15th. All of the students were very excited and some of the students took it into their own hands to make a Welcome Card for Lily. She felt shy at first about joining our class. Then, Lily made friends with Emily who was also new to Wayoata this year and now many others. We are glad Lily joined us. Does anyone want to try any new sports? Mr. Kowal gave us some clues to guess what our new art project was going to be. He gave clues like there is a summer and winter version of it. Mr. Kowal showed us pictures of the sports that are going to be in the Olympics. We go to choose the one we would want to represent in. We picked the sport and drew the icon as a silhouette. Mr. Kowal got us to think of a pattern and use it as a background. We have another art project coming up where we will be using paper towel rolls to make Olympic Torches! If you are stressed out, read this. Project 11 is what we have been working on in Health. It is inspired by Rick Rypien. Rypien was a hockey player that played for the Moose and Jets and was battling depression. He wanted to help kids who felt like him. He wore 11 on his jersey so that is why it is named Project 11. It deals with Mental Health. We have been talking about emotions and communicating our emotions. We had activities where we had to draw our feelings, such as contentment, boredom, disgust, surprise, excitement, etc. If you are feeling stressed out yourself, check out some of the Project 11 videos.
