• Cougar quarterback Jason Gesser capped a legendary and record-setting career by finishing seventh in the 2002 Heisman Trophy balloting. WSU’s Ryan Leaf finished third in the 1997 Heisman Trophy balloting, giving WSU two top-7 finalists in the last eight years.I n addition, four Cougar quarterbacks have finished in the top 8 since 1988.
