Sydney Swans 18 15 3 0 150 60 The AFL Sydney Match of the Week did not disappoint with fourth-placed Adelaide 17 13 4 0 128 52 Balmain Dockers holding on to a four-point win over the previously first- Collingwood 18 14 4 0 123 56 placed UNSW/ES Bulldogs. Hawthorn 18 13 4 0 154 52 West Coast Eagles 18 12 6 0 124 48 After the late withdrawal of playing coach, Rhys McAlister and the early loss of Jeremy Kiel, the Dockers took full Geelong 18 12 6 0 114 48 advantage with a nine-goal straight opening term. Their lead extended to 39-points at half-time with Ben Taggart North Melbourne 18 11 7 0 113 44 and Aaron Cottrell dynamic up forward. Essendon 18 11 7 0 112 44 Fremantle 18 11 7 0 111 44 The Bulldogs fought their way back but still trailed by five goals going into the last term. They dominated the last term, leading at one stage and had their chances through Max Collett and Adam Gulden to seal the win in the St Kilda 18 9 9 0 120 36 dying stages, only for Balmain to hold onto an important win. The win means the Dockers are only seven match Carlton 18 9 9 0 103 36 ratio percentage points behind first place in a log-jammed ladder. Richmond 18 8 10 0 108 32 Brisbane 18 7 11 0 86 28 North Shore Bombers jumped to the top of the standings on for and against with a narrow eight-point win over Port Adelaide 18 5 13 0 80 20 fifth-placed UTS Bats in a low scoring encounter at Waverley Oval. Ruckman, Sam Naismith went forward and Western Bulldogs 18 5 13 0 71 20 kicked three vital goals as the Bombers held on against a second-half Bats’ comeback. Melbourne 18 3 15 0 67 12 GWS Giants 18 2 16 0 45 8 At the other end of the ladder, Western Suburbs Magpies fought their way off the bottom of the ladder with a Gold Coast 18 1 17 0 58 4 nine-point win over Sydney University at Henson Park on Saturday. Scott Lear and the consistent Tim Lambert were crucial players for the Magpies in a game where they led for the majority of the contest. ROUND 18 RESULTS In the other Premier Division games on the weekend, St George easily defeated Campbelltown with Alex Wynn Geelong 18.10.118 def. Hawthorn 17.14.116 and Jason Saddington each kicking seven goals. In ‘Back to Baulko’ day at Bruce Purser Reserve, the Sydney Hills North Melbourne 18.7.115 def. Western Bulldogs 8.13.61 Eagles after a promising start, only managed one goal after quarter-time against a rampant Pennant Hills outfit. GWS Giants 16.11.107 def. Port Adelaide 10.13.73 Fremantle 17.11.113 def. West Coast 6.12.48 So to this weekend, where the highlight is the AFL Sydney Match of the Week top-of-the-table encounter between Collingwood 12.19.91 def. St Kilda 13.7.85 North Shore and UNSW/ES at Gore Hill Oval. The Bombers have been flying under the radar of sorts but can go a Richmond 20.12.132 def. Brisbane 12.12.84 long way to sealing the all-important top place with a win over the Bulldogs who only registered their second loss Melbourne 16.12.108 def. Gold Coast 9.12.66 of the season last weekend. Sydney 14.9.93 def. Carlton 10.11.71 An equally important game will be played at Kelso Oval between two sides with fifth-place aspirations in UTS and Adelaide 16.8.104 def. Essendon 15.10.100 St George.
