A F L from the EDITOR LADDER the Smell of Finals Football Has Been Complimented by the Warm Weather www.sydneyafl.com.au www.sydneyafl.com.au A F L FROM THE EDITOR LADDER The smell of finals football has been complimented by the warm weather. P W L D % Pts The weekend will see the commencement of the Premier Division Finals (i.e. Premier Hawthorn 21 16 5 0 155 64 Division, Division One, and both Under 18’s competitions), the continuation of the Sydney Swans 21 16 5 0 146 64 Lower Division Finals (Divisions Two to Five) and the Grand Finals for the AFL Sydney Adelaide 21 16 5 0 128 64 Women’s competition. West Coast Eagles 21 15 6 0 127 60 The final round of the Premier Division competitions were held last weekend with Collingwood 21 15 6 0 115 60 some major ladders changes. Geelong 21 14 7 0 116 56 Fremantle 21 13 8 0 112 52 UNSW/ES were the big beneficiaries, jumping from second to finish first after defeating Sydney University by 113 points. The North Melbourne 21 13 8 0 112 52 goals were well-spread with midfielders, Peter Kefalas and Joel Robbie getting plenty of the ball. St Kilda 21 11 10 0 124 44 To finish first, they were dealt a favour by Pennant Hills who out-played the previously top-placed side in North Shore to the Carlton 21 11 10 0 109 44 tune of eight goals. Young stars, Stephen Wray and Brandon Jack shone under pressure. Both sides will have players under Essendon 21 11 10 0 102 44 question marks for the first week of the finals with Sam Naismith and Lachlan Pryor (North Shore) and Alastair Richardson and Richmond 21 10 11 0 112 40 Aaron Crisfield (Pennant Hills) all sustaining injuries out of the game. Brisbane 21 9 12 0 87 36 St George made it five straight wins with a resounding 40-point win over Balmain. Balmain were gunning for a double chance Port Adelaide 21 5 16 0 78 20 but the wind was taken out of their sails when news seeped through of Pennant Hills claiming the remaining spot in the top- Western Bulldogs 21 5 16 0 68 20 three. Alex Wynn and Nick Ryan (seven goals) were again impressive for the Dragons. Melbourne 21 4 17 0 69 16 Gold Coast 21 3 18 0 62 12 The remaining games saw wins for Western Suburbs and UTS. On behalf of AFL Sydney, we pay tribute to these two sides as well as Sydney University, Sydney Hills Eagles, Illawarra and Campbelltown for their efforts this year. Despite missing the finals, GWS Giants 21 2 19 0 45 8 we know these sides will be better for the experience and will come back stronger next season. ROUND 22 RESULTS With UNSW/ES enjoying the weekend off, all eyes will be on the two Premier Division finals which coincidentally will be re- matches from the final round. Richmond 13.24-102 def. TAC Cup Round 2 2 & 3 April 2016 $3.00 Season 2016 kicking into gear Wasn’t it great to have football back last weekend, both at AFL and TAC Cup level? While the next crop of future AFL talent was taking to the field in TAC Cup games throughout Victoria last weekend, it was a highlight of the Easter weekend to see eight draft ees debut in Round 1 of the AFL season – including 2015 Morrish Medal winner Clayton Oliver who claimed the first NAB AFL Rising Star nomination of the season aft er his 22-disposal debut for Melbourne. While the TAC Cup season started last weekend for the best U18 male talent across Victoria, last Monday saw the conclusion of a very successful Youth Girls Academy Challenge for the most promising U18 females across the state. Congratulations to the Dandenong Stingrays, who defeated the Sandringham Dragons in the finale to the month-long tournament. It is pleasing to see TAC support not only the next crop of elite U18 boys but also what will be the next crop of future female AFL footballers via the U18 Youth Girl Academies across eight regions. During the week we celebrated the launch of the Peter Jackson VFL and new VFL Women’s competition. With the launch of a national AFL women’s competition in 2017, it is exciting for AFL Victoria to launch the first VFL Women’s season this weekend. Also at the launch we looked back at the history of the TAC Cup competition, with last week signalling the beginning of its 25th season.

TAC Cup Round 2 TAC Cup Girls Round 3 1 - 2 April 2017 $3.00 Photo: Cameron Grimes Perkins a lesson in persistence Not much knocks the AFL men’s competition off the front page of the paper, especially during the opening round of the season. But the NAB AFL Women’s Grand Final did just that on the weekend, with premier Adelaide – featuring Eastern Devils Swisse VFL Women’s draft ee Sarah Perkins – recognised on the front page of The Age with the headline ‘Making HerStory’. With close to 100 VFL Women’s players draft ed into the AFL this season, just one now has the title of premiership player, with Perkins to be congratulated on being part of the successful Crows outfit. Perkins is a great example to up-and-coming female and male players, having been overlooked at the women’s draft but making the most of the late lifeline thrown to her by Adelaide to live out her AFL dream. The TAC Cup regularly provides over 50 per cent of the talent to the AFL at draft time, but it is only a small percentage of players from the competition that are draft ed. Each weekend almost 300 players take to the field representing their region, with double that amount on TAC Cup lists. While it is the elite talent that is oft en focused on in the competition, we should also recognise the role our clubs play in developing future Peter Jackson VFL and local players. The skills learnt at this level are taken back into the community, as the players become leaders from the education and training provided in the TAC Cup.

  • AFL Sydney Partnership
AFL Sydney Partnership December 2016 1. AFL Sydney - Overview AFL has a long and proud history throughout Sydney. In more recent times the expansion of AFL in the Sydney market has become an AFL Commission priority. With the advent of the newly formed GWS GIANTS, the long term success of the Sydney Swans, record participation rates and TV ratings, the AFL is well placed to continue its rise in Sydney. The AFL Sydney Senior league is the competition arm that resides over the community club network in the greater Sydney area. AFL Sydney is committed to provide an exceptional standard of service to its constituents that will support growth of AFL. It is focussed on being an inclusive sport that drives community benefits, health and well being. There are 27 community clubs participating within the program that caters for men and women. As a part of the expansion plans and to allow greater investment into this rapidly growing community sport, AFL Sydney is looking to form strong partnerships with like minded organisations. As a part of this process, AFL Sydney welcomes any opportunity to explore potential partners from already existing relationships in the Sydney football family. © Australian Football League 2013. • The Game Within the Game Your 2019 Betting
THE GAME WITHIN THE GAME YOUR 2019 BETTING GUIDE TO THE AFL SEASON INTRODUCTION In anticipation of the AFL Season, Betfair has partnered with professional punters to preview 2019. They share their best bets for the: • Premiership • Minor Premiership • Top 4 • Top 8 • Least Season Wins • Coleman Medal Plus, you’ll get a comprehensive preview of the 2019 Brownlow Medal. We’re incredibly excited to watch, and bet, on the AFL in 2019. Betfair’s 2.5% commission rate is arguably the lowest take out rate in the industry. In fact, to put 2.5% in perspective, let’s look at an example: If you back a line bet at $2 on the Betfair Exchange, you’re effectively getting $1.975. And that’s before any discount rates. So the most you’ll pay is $1.975 on that bet. That’s a whopping 7.5% better than a $1.90 line at the TAB. NEW PRODUCTS Not only does Betfair provide incomparably better odds during 2019, we’re also offering two new products: 1. Betfair Starting Price (BSP) 2. Multis Just like Racing, Betfair now offers the BSP for AFL. This allows you to put up a bet at your desired odds, but if that goes unmatched, you can take the BSP at the start of the game. Never go unmatched again. And multis. We know AFL punters love them. But at corporate bookmakers, generally speaking, multis have significant margin built in. So we wanted to offer multibets without multiplying the profit margin. You’ll only pay 2.5% commission at Betfair.

TAC Cup Round 1 24 & 26 March 2016 $3.00 25th TAC Cup season underway Welcome to the start of another season in AFL Victoria’s TAC Cup competition. This year marks the 25th year of our elite U18 program, and we are pleased to once again have the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) supporting the development of our talented players across our 12 regions. Throughout the season we will profile a number of people that have been part of the TAC Cup over the years, with AFL coaches like Justin Leppitsch, Brad/Chris Scott and Adam Simpson plus modern-day players such as Joel Selwood, Gary Ablett and Scott Pendlebury all having origins in the competition. Last year 47 players from our 12 regions joined those names as draft ees from the TAC Cup in the NAB AFL National and Rookie draft s. It is a great reflection on the staff in each of our regions and the local clubs that have helped these players on their journey to achieve their dream of being draft ed to the AFL. We have seen a number of draft ees get their first taste at the elite level in the AFL’s NAB Challenge, and we hope to see a number of players debut in the opening round of the season and throughout the year. Good luck to all coaches, players and staff for season 2016.
