I am very pleased to inform you that 2017 was another very exciting and successful year enhancing and enriching our BSNA organization. We have taken several new initiatives and supported various community activities to fulfill the BSNA Mission to: Preserve, Promote, Protect and Advance Brahmanic Values, Vedic Culture and Heritage Provide a plaorm to all Brahmans to retain their cultural identy and tradion Develop cultural awareness in youths, facilitate networking and mentoring Network, help each other and promote unity and brotherhood Endeavor to support internaonal community from all over the world Organize Annual Convenon to bring Brahmans across the globe to share their talents, experse and experience, and define the future goals, among numerous acvies for youth and adults Some of the recent BSNA activities are highlighted below: Increased membership and various chapter activities, and created new chapters Involved more youth and created a youth team across North America, working on their increased activities Continued to support Matrimonial Services across North America, receiving a very encouraging and appreciative response from the entire community. Thanks to our Director of Matrimonial Services, Dr. Ajay Pandey, for his continued support. The enhancement of BSNA website is completed and will be launched soon. Thanks to our IT/Web Director, Dr. Sukrit Mukherjee, for his great effort and time to reshape the website. New logos of BSNA were designed and adopted during 2017. Thanks to our Youth Group President, Mr. Abhay Dube, for his advice and effort to help design the new logos. Sought tremendous support of Brahman community of North America and globally, including other Hindu communities Increased chapter activities on the regular basis, such as the celebration of festivals, picnics, workshops on yoga, spirituality and medicines, and promote youth activities 5 Brahma Bharati Volume 20 Number 1 (2018) Organized another very successful joint convention of BSNA and GBC in Detroit, Michigan, with numerous youth and adult participations. The events were full of excellent professional activities in areas of culture, music, spiritual, yoga, social, arts, science, medicine, engineering and technology, business, etc. We are very proud of our youth who are actively involved in several national and international community services. We thank Michigan Chapter, Convention Committee and Convention Director Dr. Ajay Pandey for organizing this wonderful convention and to volunteers for their active support. We were honored to have distinguished speakers and guests from North America/Canada and India, and especially the keynote speaker, Mrs. Mamta Tiwari from Maryland Published the convention souvenir magazine Brhama Vani and quarterly online magazine Brahma Bharati. They are also published online in the new Website format. Recognized several prominent members of the BSNA community including our Ellis Island Medal of Honor Awardee, Dr. Akkaraju Sarma, Professor Satish Tripathi, President of Buffalo University, Dr. Sen Pathak, Emeritus Professor at M.D. Anderson Hospital and BOT Chairman, donors and sponsors of the convention programs, among others. We are very proud of having several distinguished personalities in our BSNA community who are committed to extend their valuable services to promote the Brahmanic causes. We are committed to promote youth activities and bring more youth and young families in the mainstream of BSNA. Please visit www.bsna.org for more detailed information about the activities of BSNA. Please plan early to attend our upcoming Convention, 23rd Convention of BSNA and 8th Convention of GBC, to be held on July 27-29, 2018 in Houston, Texas. Note that we are celebrating the 25th anniversary (Silver Jubilee) of the foundation of BSNA established on September 3, 1994. Harishchandra was a great king of India, who flourished several centuries before the Christian era. He (sic) and his wife's names were household words in every Indian home for their truthfulness and chastity respectively. Their son Rohidas was a marvellous type of noble manhood. What Job was in Christian (sic) Bible, so Harischandra was in the Indian mythology. The patience of this king was tried so much that he was reduced to utter poverty and he had to pass his days in jungles in the company of cruel beasts. The same fate overcame his faithful wife and the dutiful son. But truth tri- umphed at last and they came out successfully through the ordeal. Several Indian scenes as depicted in this film are sim- ply marvellous. It is really a pleasure to see this piece of Indian workmanship'. The Bombay Chronicle, while reviewing Raja Harishchandra in its issue of Monday, 5th May 1913 said, 'An interesting de- parture is made this week by the management of Coronation Cinematographer. It is not only a river; it is an emblem of “civilization.” In terms of its capacity to nurture material well-being of society over thousands of years, it is equal to or even surpasses the Nile, Euphrates, Yellow and Yangtze Rivers. Many civilizations have taken root along the banks of these great rivers, which continue to sustain them.3 Few would argue that these rivers bring us very close to the source of the historical processes that have given rise to and nurtured civilizations. Indeed, these rivers are visible relics of the past no less than ancient monuments or ageless trade routes. Study of these rivers helps us gauge some of the structural continuities of the economy, society and geo-politics over the longue durée. Yet as they change their course across the landscape, these rivers influence the trajectory of history too. Thus the Ganga embodies characteristics of both continuity and change. Generally it is assumed that from time immemorial the Ganga has displayed an extraordinary capacity to sustain human life, define social organization and facilitate state formation.

This medium opened a new horizon in the world of art, entertainment and communication. The history of film making in India may be traced to Dhundiraj alis Dadasaheb Govind Phalke of Nashik. He came up with ‘Raja Harishchandra’ the first Indian film exhibited on April 24, 1913. This medium of entertainment become very popular in India within a decade. Baburao Painter of Kolhapur laid foundation of Maharashtra Film Company in 1917 and came up with his maiden mythological silent movie ‘Sairandhri’ in 1920. It was big hit and Lokmany Tilak conferred the title of ‘Cinema Kesari’ on Baburao Painter. Besides entertainment, films were looked upon as an instrument of social and political awakening and enlightenment. Various issues and problems were handled by the producers in their movies. Thus, this medium became rapidly popular. Kolhapur Film Industry produced one hundred two movies during 1920-60. Out of them thirty four were based on mythological stories. Thematic study of these films with their specifications in undertaken in this research article. Mythological Films: Thirty-four movies were produced during this period may be further classified into two categories (1) Epic, (2) Others. (1) EPIC: Films on Mahabharat: It was first priority of film producers. As many as sixteen films were produced on various episodes of Mahabharat such as episode of Vatsala Harm, Kaliyamardan, battle between Kauravas and Pandavas etc.
