What It Takes To Be A Cheerleader By: Anisia Ornelas To be a cheerleader you have to have a good attitude and you will have to put in a lot of effort. If you want to be a cheerleader for this school you will need a 2.0 GPA. Cheerleading is fun because you get to learn dance moves, songs and get to hangout with your cheer squad. To be a cheerleader you have to be confident and you can’t be scared because if you are a flyer you can’t be shaking or else you will fall. In cheer, when your doing stunts there should be two bases, a back spotter and a front spotter. You should practice your cheers the day before the game so you don't forget the cheers. You can only miss 1 out of the 4 practices in the month; if you miss more than 2 you are benched for the next game. In cheer you have to have spirit, confidence and work hard! If you think cheerleading seems fun, you should try out next year! What It Takes To Be A Gymnast By:Adriana Sanchez Waking up sore, not being able to feel my legs , having back pains. It’s worth it; we do it for a reason and it's a great accomplishment to many. Just remember, “when my hands are ripped, and my body is sore, I find the courage to limp back for more.” There are a lot of times you can have mental breakdowns or mental blocks because of how stressful and difficult the sport is. But the most important thing to do is get up wipe your tears and keep trying. A big part of being a gymnast is never to give up no matter how much you doubt yourself, and always know you will get through it. NJHS: The Journey An article by Melanie Hernandez-Rosales and Jennifer Pena Before becoming an NJHS member we had to go through a small process. Well first Jennifer and I got an envelope by Mr. McGuffee. When we both read the letter it was about NJHS. He told us that if we get “tapped” on tapping day we are basically members until the day of the ceremony where it makes it official. Then on May 14,2015 we both got tapped and we were accepted into the National Junior Honor Society. Later on that same week we were were invited to a ceremony in which we had to practice. Mr.Mcguffee gave us three rules we had to remember :#1 be there,#2 don’t forget your name and #3,most importantly, don’t trip. All of the current members were lined up and looked like they already knew what to do. During the practice Mr. McGuffee was calling out students in alphabetical order by their first name. When we finally finished we got back to class. When it was the day of the ceremony I was so scared and nervous to screw it up in front of family and friends. I remember when the president of NJHS called out my name,in that moment I was scared but I knew that I had to face my fears since I don’t like having all the attention to myself. I stood up with some tiny bit of confidence, I walked toward one of the members shaked his hand, went up on stage and he put my torch on and I shook his hand once again, went off the stage to shake some teachers, counselors, and the principal's hand and finally went back up the stage to sit down while they are finished the ceremony. Thankfully everything went well because I was there, I didn’t forget my name, and I did NOT trip. Making a Difference: Ms. Cruz By: A Person ((;; Q: Why did you want to be a counselor?
