“Congratulations to the Class of 2011. Most Old Grads would likely tell you that if you have paid a reasonable degree of atten- tion during military training and the varied leadership lectures, then you are adequately prepared to take the next step in your military career. If, over the course of the last four years, you‟ve taken stock of your strengths and weakness, and you are willing to share those strengths and vigorously work to improve on weaknesses, then you already have a self-improvement plan, something that will change over time, but you should never be without. If you can embrace the fact that you will learn from others from day one at your first assignment, then you will vastly increase your potential for early and continued success. I‟m sure none of these ideas are new to the graduating class. I recall these same points being made over and over again firstie year, increasing in frequency as graduation approached. Therefore, before you show up at your first duty station ready to fol- low all this great advice, have some fun this summer. You have certainly earned it. Finally, keep in touch with your class the best you can. You might swear against it now, but you will fall out of contact with many of them. But, when needed, they will be there for you. Do your best to be there for them. Godspeed.” -Mike Lamke „94 P A G E 4 General Advice By Claire Williams „14
