PRESS RELEASE Shakespeare’s Globe Announces Full Casting for Nick Bagnall’s Love’s Labour’s Lost 17 JULY 2018 Shakespeare’s Globe is delighted to announce full casting for Nick Bagnall’s Love’s Labour’s Lost, opening in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse on Thursday 23 August. Dharmesh Patel will play Berowne. Dharmesh returns to the Globe after starring in Barrie Rutter's The Captive Queen in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse earlier this year. Other recent theatre credits include Titus Andronicus, Antony and Cleopatra and Julius Caesar (RSC), The Two Gentlemen of Verona and The Tempest (Shakespeare's Globe). Kirsty Woodward is Princess of France. Kirsty appeared at The Globe in last year’s touring production of Tristan & Yseult, and has also appeared in Globe productions of Pericles and The Winter’s Tale. Her recent television work includes Bad Move (ITV) and Quacks (BBC). Paul Stocker will play King of Navarre, returning to the Globe after appearing as Palamon in Barrie Rutter's The Two Noble Kinsmen earlier this summer. Paul’s other theatre credits include The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (West End), Coral, A Thousand Stars Explode in the Sky (National Theatre Studio) and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Regent’s Park). Television work includes Doctors, EastEnders and The Rack Pack (BBC). Jade Williams is Rosaline. Jade has appeared in several Globe productions including Matthew Dunster's Doctor Faustus, Raz Shaw's God of Soho and Jessica Swale's Bedlam. PRESS RELEASE Saffron Burrows, Oliver Chris and Belinda Stewart-Wilson join cast of Everything I Ever Wanted to Tell My Daughter About Men 29 January 2020 Shakespeare’s Globe is delighted to announce further casting for Everything I Ever Wanted to Tell My Daughter About Men, a new black comedy by actor and writer Lorien Haynes, directed by Tara Fitzgerald (Brassed Off, Game of Thrones), being hosted in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse on Thursday 20 February. Everything I Ever Wanted to Tell My Daughter About Men traces a woman’s relationship history backwards, exploring the impact of sexual assault, addiction and teen pregnancy on her adult relationships. Presented in association with RISE and The Circle, all profits from this event will go towards supporting survivors of sexual violence. Thanks in huge part to RISE’s work, the event will also mark the planned introduction of the Worldwide Sexual Violence Survivor Rights United Nations Resolution later this year, which addresses the global issue of sexual violence and pens into existence the civil rights of millions of survivors. Nobel-Prize nominee and founder of Rise, Amanda Nguyen, will introduce the evening. A silent auction will also take place on the night to highlight and raise awareness for the support networks available to those in need. Audience members will be able to bid on props from the production as well as a selection of especially commissioned rotary phones, exclusively designed by acclaimed British artists including Harland Miller, Natasha Law, Bella Freud and Emma Sargeant. The money raised by each phone will go to a rape crisis helpline chosen by the artist. -

There are no performance royalties due. He asks that scripts be purchased for every member of a cast. Frequently asked questions include, “What if my group is mostly girls?” Cross-casting (females playing male roles) is almost inevitable; once it is explained that males played all the female roles in Shakespeare’s time, this obstacle is easily overcome. Moreover, girls see that many of the “big” parts are male, so those wanting more stage time gravitate toward male roles. The author also encourages groups to take certain liberties, such as changing the sex of some roles. With little alteration of the text, a duke may become a duchess, an uncle may become an aunt. In answer to the question, “What if I have too many (or too few) students?” some parts may be divided amongst several actors (a messenger becomes two messengers), or actors may take on more than one role. In short, do what is necessary to make the play fun and accessible for young people; the author did! Synopsis of the play Orsino, Duke of Illyria, is in love with Olivia, a proud and beautiful countess. She spurns his suit, being in mourning for her late father and brother. -

Audiences have just five weeks left to see David Hare’s critically acclaimed new play The Moderate Soprano, about the love story at the heart of the foundation of Glyndebourne, directed by Jeremy Herrin and starring Olivier Award winners Roger Allam and Nancy Carroll. The production enters its final weeks at the Duke of York’s Theatre where it must end a strictly limited season on Saturday 30 June. The previously untold story of an English eccentric, a young soprano and three refugees from Germany who together established Glyndebourne, one of England’s best loved cultural institutions, has garnered public and critical acclaim alike. The production has been embraced by the Christie family who continue to be involved with the running of Glyndebourne, 84 years after its launch. Executive Director Gus Christie attended the West End opening with his family and praised the portrayal of his grandfather John Christie who founded one of the most successful opera houses in the world. First seen in a sold out run at Hampstead Theatre in 2015, the new production opened in the West End this spring, with Roger Allam and Nancy Carroll reprising their original roles as Glyndebourne founder John Christie and soprano Audrey Mildmay.
