As a result, a total of 117 species-subspecies belonging to 37 genera of the family Tettigoniidae, 6 species belonging to five genera of the family Gryllidae and one species belonging to one genus of the family Gryllotalpidae have been determined from the examined material. -

The ecological preferences and bioacoustics of bush-crickets, crickets and grasshoppers species were studied in middle and lower Prut River basin, a research conducted in 55 localities from Romania and 33 localities in the Republic of Moldova. A total number of 91 species of Orthoptera were collected in the study area: 85 species encountered on the western side of Prut River basin (9 Phaneropteridae, 24 Tettigoniidae, 1 Bradyporidae, 5 Gryllidae, 1 Gryllotalpidae, 1 Tridactylidae, 5 Tetrigidae, 39 Acrididae) and 76 species found on the eastern side (7 Phaneropteridae, 19 Tettigoniidae, 1 Bradyporidae, 5 Gryllidae, 1 Gryllotalpidae, 1 Tridactylidae, 3 Tetrigidae, 39 Acrididae). Four species are recorded for the first time in the Orthoptera fauna of the Republic of Moldova:Barbitistes constrictus (Fabricius), Poecilimon fussii Brunner von Wattenwyl, Metrioptera roeselii fedtschenkoi (Saussure) and Pholidoptera frivaldskyi (Herman). Résumé. Les préférences écologiques et bioacoustique des espèces de sauterelles, grillons et criquets ont été étudiés dans le bassin moyen et inférieur du fleuve Prut, une recherche menée dans 55 localités de la Roumanie et de 33 localités dans la République de Moldova. Un total de 91 espèces d’orthoptères a été recueillis dans la zone d’étude: 85 espèces rencontrées sur le côté d’ouest du bassin de la rivière Prut (9 Phaneropteridae, 24 Tettigoniidae, 1 Bradyporidae, 5 Gryllidae, 1 Gryllotalpidae, 1 Tridactylidae, 5 Tetrigidae, 39 Acrididae) et 76 espèces présentes sur la côte orientale (7 Phaneropteridae, 19 Tettigoniidae, 1 Bradyporidae, 5 Gryllidae, 1 Gryllotalpidae, 1 Tridactylidae, 3 Tetrigidae, 39 Acrididae). -

E-mail: [email protected] 3Corresponding author The species of Bradyporus Charpentier, 1825 found in Turkey has been revised by the second author (M. Ünal, 2011). Bradyporus comprises thirteen species and subspecies at present. The species of the genus have a range of Central Palaearctic distribution; most of the species are Balkanian-Anatolian-Iranian, whereas some of them are restricted to Ukraine, the Caucasus, Transcaucasus, being inhabitants in the continental mountain steppe belt. It seems that Anatolia, with 8 species, and Balkans, with 6 species, are two diversity centres of this genus. Iran represented by only species, B. latipes (Stal, 1875). But, one more peculiar species is described from north west of Iran herein. The species of this genus are very similar to one another in their external features, however, detailed descriptions and characterizations are given for the authentic separation of the known species in the exhausting revision of the genus by the second author (Ünal, 2011). ZooKeys 369: 1–24. doi: 10.3897/zookeys.369.5864 Abstract Fourteen endemic and two sub-endemic species belonging to three subfamilies of Tettigoniidae (Tet- tigoniinae, Bradyporinae and Saginae) were sampled during field trips throughout the different ranges of Anatolia between the years of 2004 and 2013. Acoustic parameters of these 16 species affiliated to 8 genera (Anterastes, Apholidoptera, Gampsocleis, Parapholidoptera, Pezodrymadusa, Psorodonotus, Bradyporus and Saga) have been described for the first time in this study. Acoustical analysis showed that song char- acters are species-specific in the genera Saga and Psorodonotus. On the other hand, we could not find big differences among species of the genus Pezodrymadusa and Parapholidoptera castaneoviridis species-group. E-mail: [email protected] 3Corresponding author Abstract The phallus in Tettigoniidae (katydids) is a structure informative relative to the systematics of the group. Despite this, it is often not considered in descriptions of taxa. The lack of adequate descriptions of phalli is not only a gap for systematic and morphological studies, but postpones works on the evolution of copula. Here we study the exoskeletal morphology of the phallus in katydids, its components, and revised the terminology for them. We carried out dissections for morpholog- ical comparisons, and complement the observational information with published data. We stained phalli of katydids with chlorazol black, to better contrast membranous versus sclerotized components. We demonstrate that phallic components vary at specific, generic and suprageneric levels, and that internal and external components vary in number, shape, size and position. Currently there is little comparative data to support hypotheses on the evolution of this structure, but possibly the possession of a titillator is an ancestral condition. -

J.ll.Fabre (1899). To my Father. Abstract In certain species of cricket and bushcricket (Orthoptera; Ensifera), the male transfers an elaborate spermatophore to the female at mating. This consists of a sperm-containing ampulla and an often substantial, sperm-free, gelatinous mass known as the spermatophylax. After mating, the female eats the spermatophylax before consuming the ampulla. The spermatophylax is particularly well developed in the bushcrickets (Tettigoniidae) and can contribute to a loss of as much as 40% of male body weigh at mating in some species. Recently, there has been considerable debate over the selective pressures responsible for the evolution and maintenance of the spermatophylax and other forms of nuptial feeding in insects. Two different, though not mutually exclusive, functions have been suggested for the spermatophylax: 1) nutrients from the spermatophylax may function to increase the weight and\or number of eggs laid by the female, i.e. may function as paternal investment; 2) the spermatophylax may function to prevent the female from eating the ampulla before complete ejaculate transfer, i.e. may be regarded as a form of mating effort. In this study, a comparative approach combined with laboratory manipulations were used in an attempt to elucidate the selective pressures responsible for the origin, evolutionary enlargement and maintenance (= function) of the spermatophylax in bushcrickets. -

Chromosomes of six European species (one with two subspecies) of Orthoptera belonging to the tribes Ephippigerini and Bradyporini were analyzed using C-banding, Ag-NOR, DAPI (AT-rich)/CMA3 (GC-rich) staining and fluorescence in situ hybridi- zation (FISH) using the 18S rDNA and (TTAGG)n telomeric probes with the aim to better understand chromosomal organization and evolutionary relationships between genera and subgenera within and across both tribes. The evolution of karyotypes was studied in terms of changes in chromosome number (2n) and morphology (FN, the fundamental number – i.e. the number of chromosome arms including the X chromosome). The ancestral 2n = 31 was reduced to 2n = 29 (FN = 31) and 27 (FN = 31) by one or two Robert- sonian fusions in the Ephippigerini. -

In Serbia, we could not confirm this cricket from localities reported during the previous centuries. It probably demises here, limiting the range to only a few recent populations in the southernmost parts of the country. The distribution of this species is better understood in the Republic of Macedonia where the historical distribution roughly matches the recent one. Bradyporus dasypus is known from natural steppe, mixture of forests and steppe, and semi-natural habitats. A strong decline started from the north and was likely caused by increased human activity, changes in agricultural practices and overall habitat deterioration. This resulted in species extinction from Hungary and its listing as Endangered (EN) in Serbia.
