PROGRAMME NOTES We, in Cheshire, welcome our old f rien ds Durham County today. to a Club which for mast of them is out of context wit h previous years. The arder of play between Counties in the Northern Group has been altered 'permed' 50 that in each year in rotation, each Co unty starts with a new fixture as opposed to the c id formula . It has also been the policy within the Cou nty , as far as possi ble, that games are spread around Clubs. Hence t he 8 irkonian ground as Qur ve nue today . The Club celebrated its 50th anniversary las1 month and boasts of one of the better drained grounds in the North West. Sa given fa ir conditions we shol.Jld have a mast enjoyable ga me. In addition, the Club has the honour of bcing m orc than a little assoc iated with our new Captain ' Noddy' Slater, fjrstly as an Oxford Blue from Birkenhead School, seconclly as Captain of the Club for four seasons and currently as Captain of the Army XV . Within the Durham Committee, we would wish to ofter our con· gratulations to TUAN BAINBRIOGE on h is elec tion to the Execu tive Cammittee of the R.F.U. Since our visit to Gosforth last week, we are licking our wounds and we hope for someth ing better today. The records of the County Championship show that over t he years 1900 to 1914, Durham appeared in t he final ten times. winning on five occasions with one shared, more latterly in the heyday o f Weston & Oee appea ring four t imes and winning twice. Cheshire have won twice on two appearances. Neve rtheless, we are st ill hopeful. COUNTY MEMBERSHIP The Cheshire Rugby Football Union invite applications for indivi dual County Membership.
