Their Territory spans an area between the White River to the north, and the Slims River to the south; and from the St. Elias Mountains to the west, to the Ruby Ranges to the east. We have seen many changes on the land and in our community - from the establishment of the Alaska Highway, to the inception of the Kluane First Nation Government; all the while, we remain present with the land. Today, we are witnessing changes in our climate that are reflected on the land, and so we must take action to address the needs of our future generations.

The health & safety of the Kluane First Nation (“KFN”) community and citizens is of primary importance to KFN Council especially KFN elders, who are particularly vulnerable to COVID-19, B. KFN potentially faces increased risk to its remote location, and reduced access to health care, C. As of June 16, 2021, 50 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Yukon: and one confirmed case within KFN TT. D. Yukon’s Chief Medical Officer of Health and Yukon Government continue to update measures to respond to COVID-19, including restrictions on non-essential travel and the requirement to self- isolate for anyone who is not vaccinated, restrictions on group gatherings and changes to business operations, E. Consistent with KFN’s emergency powers under our Self-Government Agreement, Constitution, and Uk’à Dàts’sälay (Rules for the People) Act, and pursuant to our inherent rights as self- governing Indigenous people, BE IT RESOLVED THAT: 1. KFN is recommending that Citizens and community members living on settlement land follow Yukon’s Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) strong recommendation to suspend any non- essential travel to and from Yukon’s rural communities. 2. All KFN Citizens and community members living on settlement land feeling cold or flu-like symptoms are to self-monitor. 3. All non-essential KFN government offices and public buildings under KFN authority shall be closed to the public until further notice.
