Hotel Demand, Rate, Occupancy, Revenue, and REVPAR Data: February, 2019
o During the month of February, 2019, Massachusetts
Massachusetts Hotel Lodging Data statewide lodging room demand (1,311.2k) increased by
4.1% compared to February 2018 (1,260.0k). The

o REVPAR CYTD, which is a function of occupancy
rate and room rate, decreased for CYTD February over REVPAR CYTD February 2019 Year ($’s) % Change same period last year by 0.4% to $73.95 from $74.23. 2019 73.95 -0.4 Occupancy rate decreased 2.0% and the room rate 2018 74.23 2.9 2017 72.15 -1.3 increased 1.7%.

State Room Occupancy Taxes: February, 2019 & FY 2019 thru February
o For the month of February, 2019 (FY19), the net State Room Occupancy Tax Collections

Local Option Room Occupancy Taxes: February, 2019 & FY 2019 thru February
o For the month of February, 2019 (FY19), the local
option room occupancy tax collections of $9.4 mil Local Room Occupancy Tax Collections

o For FY2019 YTD February, local option room 2019 FYTD thru February $ % occupancy tax collections totalled $163.0 mil, a Year (000) Change FY2019 162,994.5 9.2 9.2% increase from FY2018 total of $149.2 mil. The FY2018 149,234.3 3.2 FY2017 144,650.0 2.6 FY2018 collections were 3.2% more than the

Ma Tourism Fund (MTF) Collections thru February: FYs 2019 and 2018
o The FY2019 year to date thru February 2019 the MTF collections totaled $7,500,000. The
amount reported collected for the same period in FY2018 was $7,500,000.

Museum and Attraction Attendance: February, 2019 and CYTD 2019
o Massachusetts’s museum and attraction attendance increased by 4.1% in the month of February,
2019 compared to February, 2018 (684,067 visitors vs. 656,876 visitors). The total net visitor
increase was 27,191 visitors at the 77 sites reporting visitor data.
o For calendar year 2019 through February, attendance was up 8.2% to 1,226,332 from the
1,133,630 visits during the same period in CY2018, an increase of 92,702 visitors.

Logan International Airport Passenger Volume: February, 2019 and CYTD 2019
o In February 2019, the number Domestic passenger arrivals and departures of 2.25 mil was
an increase of 3.4% from February 2018 total of 2.18 mil.
o The CYTD 2019 total was 4.43 million, up 3.6% from the 4.28 million in CYTD 2018.
o The number of International passenger arrivals and departures increased in February 2019
by 8.8% compared to February 2018 to 460.0 k from 422.7 k.
o The CYTD 2019 totals were up 10.1% to 0.98 mil from 0.89 mil the prior year.

The total domestic trips to Massachusetts in FY2018 were 26.1 million. The primary trip purpose in FY2018 was Visiting Friends and/or Relatives (46.3%), the top activities were attending a family/social event (42.0%) followed by shopping (21.2%), and 73.8% of visitors arrived in their own vehicle. Of the visitors that stayed overnight, 49.2% stayed in a hotel/motel/inn or B&B.

Travel to Massachusetts from MOTT target markets in CY2017
o OVERSEAS visits to Massachusetts during CY2017 totaled 1.7 million. This was an increase
of 0.8% from CY2016. The top four origin countries to visit MA have been Canada
(estimated down 8.5% in 2017), the UK (down 1.5%), China (up 23%) and Germany (down
2.2%).

o For CY2017, Massachusetts captured 4.5% of all overseas travel to the U.S... All Canadian
visitation to MA totaled 650k in CY2017 which was a 3.3% share for MA.
Travel to U.S. from Overseas and MOTT target markets, CY 2018 thru May
o Travel to U.S. from Overseas for CYTD 2018 thru May was up 4.6%. Travel from Canada
(which is Massachusetts’ number one international visitor origin market) to U.S. was up 7.1%.
Visits to U.S. from Japan was down 3.7%, down 1.4% from China, up 0.3% from Germany,
up 3.3% from the UK, up 17.8% from Ireland and up 4.9% from Italy.

Direct Economic Impact of Travel and Tourism, CY2017
o Domestic and International traveler expenditures totaled $22.9 Billion in MA during 2017. Domestic
traveler spending totaled $18.7 Billion, while international traveler spending totaled $4.1 Billion. Travel
is comprised of several sub industries as noted below.
