In an effort to provide veterans in Western Massachusetts with a comprehensive guide of services and benefits available to them and their families, the Office of the Northwestern District Attorney and Veterans Justice Partnership have created The Blue Book. This guidebook offers contact and general information about local, state, and federal resources for Western Massachusetts veterans and their families. We hope this book makes the “alphabet soup” of veteran and community resources easier to understand and access. The Blue Book offers a comprehensive guide to help navigate the maze of services and benefits each veteran has justly earned. The Veterans Justice Partnership (VJP) is a community partnership helping court-involved veterans with treatment options, alternatives to incarceration, housing, employment, veterans’ benefits, and mental health services. Organ3 Abstract - Although development and urbanization are typically believed to have negative iMpacts on carnivoran species, soMe species can successFully navigate an urban Matrix. Sympatric carnivorans compete for limited resources in urban areas, likely with system- specifc impacts to their distributions and activity patterns. We used automatically triggered wildlife cameras to assess the local distribution and co-existence of Canis latrans (Coyote), Vulpes vulpes (Red Fox), and Urocyon cinereoargenteus (Gray Fox) across the Pioneer Valley, MA, in relation to different levels of human development. We placed cameras at 79 locations in Forested, altered, and urban land-use areas FroM SepteMber to NoveMber 2012 and accumulated 1670 trap nights. We determined site characteristics and detection rates For 12 other wildliFe species For each caMera location to develop a generalized linear model for the local distribution of each focal canid species across the study area. We also coMpared diel activity patterns aMong Coyotes, Red Foxes, and Gray Foxes, and calculated coeffcients of overlap between each pair. The local distribution of Coyotes was positively associated with the detection rates oF their prey and not associated with detection rates of syMpatric carnivoran species. Red Foxes and Gray Foxes had negative relationships with the detection rate oF Coyotes, and none oF the 3 canid species showed a positive correlation with increased levels of urbanization.

    WHERE IS NORTHAMPTON, MASSACHUSETTS? Northampton is bordered by Easthampton on the south, Westhampton on the west, Williamsburg and Hatfield on the north and is separated by the Connecticut river from Hadley on the east. Northampton is 43 miles east of Pittsfield; 93 miles west of Boston; and 151 miles north from New York city. Northampton is a lively, diverse community located in the heart of the Five College Area of the Pionner Valley. Home to Smith College, Northampton also serves as the county seat of Hampshire County. It is located at the intersection of Route 91 (north-south New England corridor) and Route 9 (east-west highway) which links Amherst and the University of Massachusetts with the hilltowns of the west. The downtown of Northampton is alive days and evenings with a wide selection of restaurants, coffee and ice-cream shops, theatres including the only municipally owned theatre in the state, clubs featuring an array of music, street musicians and a Center for the Arts. Since the publication of our Status of Women in Western Massachusetts, 2013, we have seen progress in a number of areas for women, as well as places to grow. In terms of progress, we see that more women are being educated at both the high school and college levels. While the trend is in the right direction, there is much room to grow, particularly in Hampden County. We see progress with more women being elected to office, but we must encourage women to reach higher so we can achieve shared leadership. Additionally, our region is very slowly becoming more racially and ethnically diverse. While most of Western Massachusetts’ diversity still lies within Hampden County, the other three counties have made small gains.

From The New York Times to TIME, The Tonight Show to The Ellen Show and stars of the Fox Searchlight Top 50 all-time documentary, Young@Heart, this group of fearless seniors, ranging in age from 73-92, has toured from Northampton to New Zealand, Europe to Japan. Featured in E*Trade’s acclaimed Super Bowl ad This Is Getting Old (2018), Young@Heart continues to wow audiences worldwide while conducting weekly rehearsals and concerts with incarcerated singers in two local prisons through their PrisonVision program launched in 2014. In their annual Mash-Up concerts, they collaborate with the best youth performance groups, including Staten Island’s PS22 Chorus, Chicago Children’s Choir, and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus. Young@Heart will release Miss You their newest live album, and first in eight years, in October 2020. ORGANIZATIONAL BIO (LONG) What started out in 1982 at a Western Massachusetts elderly housing project to joyfully pass the time instead of passing before your time has developed into the stereotype-defying, generation-crossing musical extravaganza better known as The Young@Heart Chorus. Featured in the 2018 E*Trade Super Bowl ad and stars of the hit Fox Searchlight documentary Young@Heart, this group of spirited seniors, ranging in age from 73-91, has toured from Northampton to New Zealand, Europe to Japan, proving it’s “possible to grow old without growing boring.” (The Dartmouth) In 2008, Young@Heart made its first visit to perform for inmates at a local prison, arriving at Hampshire County Jail with no idea what would happen.
