We thank him most sincerely for his thoughtful input to the committee during his year of involvement. Will‘s insightful ability to gear into the heart of any matter and act quickly and positively was much appreciated. And introducing… We are fortunate that Barry Creedy was able to step in to the role of Treasurer. Barry spent 20 years in PNG from 1958. Initially posted as a Cadet Patrol Officer to Kundiawa Sub District, Barry then went to Manus, Komo (where he finalized construction of an airstrip and Patrol Post and had exploratory and initial conduct patrols in the border area of Southern Highlands and Western District), Kagua, Ialibu and Koroba as A/ADC. Barry was Assistant District Commissioner at Kiunga where, in 1968, he was involved with the West Irian Act of Free Choice and the commencement of the Star Mountains copper project. This included liaison flights to Mindiptana where the Buparti Merauke also attended. He returned to Kundiawa for two terms on DO Special Duties (A/DDC and A/DC at various times) during the period of PNG Self-Government and Independence before going to Kimbe, also as DO (S.D), A/DDC, A/DC. Barry met and married Joy Heal who had had six (6) years‘ service in Tari, Southern Highlands District as a Methodist Overseas Missionary. As a midwife and Huli speaker she supervised the Hoieba/Tari Maternity Hospital and General Outpatient clinic with relieving duties at the Leprosy Hospital. Returning to Australia Barry purchased a motel at Jerilderie eventually being elected Flag Inns Zone Chairman for the NSW area encompassing Deniliquin, Griffith, Wagga, Albury.

A possible hamstring injury to Kiwis dynamo Benji Marshall threatened to overshadow his side's big win over Papua New Guinea at Skilled Park last night. Arguably the last superstar left in Stephen Kearney's squad, in the absence of show-stoppers like Roy Asotasi, Frank Pritchard and Sonny Bill Williams, Marshall is widely considered the Kiwis' great white hope.

It’s not like the Aussies aren’t suffering the same thing, with Andrew Fifita opting for Tonga ahead of the Kan- garoos. As I drove home last night Radio Sport was going off, with all sorts of opinions about the North Queensland Cowboy’s decision to play for Tonga ahead of the Kiwis, and then of course with Thursday’s defections, many are arguing the Kiwis are a shambles. Well if they are, they are my shambles, and come October when the ball gets kicked off at Mt Smart I will still be in the stand, and I will still be cheering for the boys. I have had the pleasure of meeting our coach David Kidwell many times, and he is a great bloke, but simpler than that, he is the coach and I will back him to do the best job he can. There are still some real positives for me in the Kiwis side. Simon Mannering is named, and there had been plenty of talk that he would not make it, with the Kiwis opt- ing for a rapid-fire game that might not suit his style.

Of course the Kiwis take on Samoa on Saturday night at Mt Smart, and that one should be a good game too. League legend Olsen Filipaina is taking the ball out, which is pretty cool given he has represented the Kiwis and Samoa. The game I am looking forward to is the Kiwis v Tonga in Hamilton, because there is not going to be a lot of love lost when those two sides meet, after everything that has gone on. Before a ball is kicked I have the Kiwis lunch at the Ellerslie Events Centre to look forward to on Friday. When Pete asked if I would take it on with Gordon Gibbons and Tony Feasey, I foolishly said yes, not want- ing to let Pete down. But in truth Gordon has been amazing and we have an incredible line-up of Kiwis greats taking to the stage, and players with a long history of World Cup and test glory in attendance. I have been to several of Peter’s Kiwis lunches and enjoyed every one of them.

    WAKEFIELD TRINITY RLFC PLAYERS REGISTER A-Z 1895-2016 HERITAGE NUMBERS … The Story Initial Ideas Our initial ideas for the heritage numbers came about a couple of years ago (approx. 2012), after seeing the success of Queensland in Australia, with Warrington being the first English club to follow suit. Next Step Tremendous work had been carried out by a group of rugby league historians in the 1970s (RL Record Keepers’ Club) who pooled their knowledge, and attempted to record every game in the first one hundred years of rugby league (1895-1994). Trinity’s were completed and fortunately we acquired the records to every Trinity game, and players, since 1895 The First 100 Years The teams for the first one hundred years of Trinity’s rugby league days (1895-1994) were recorded and each new player to make his debut noted. On the very first game there were fifteen (numbers 1-15) and each debutant after this was given the subsequent number, in position order (full back, winger, centre etc.). This was checked, double-checked and triple checked. By 1994 we had found 1,060 names. The Next 20 Years … Part 1 The next twenty years, to the modern day, were a little more difficult but we researched the Trinity playing records through the excellent ‘Rothman’s Year Books’ written by the late Raymond Fletcher and David Howes. These books started in 1981 and finished in 1999. Again, each debutant was given the next heritage number The Next 20 Years … Part 2 After the ‘Rothmans’ books ceased publication we used the yearbooks published by ‘League Weekly’, which also noted every new player, signed throughout the season.

That was then, this is now. We scored a staggering 14 tries as we blew Scotland away, three each to Peta Hiku and Te Maire Martin. Even with a triple each, they did not get the headlines, because Shaun Johnson kicked nine goals and added a try for a22 point haul that made him the Kiwis top scorer of all time, with 175 points, overtaking some bloke called Matthew Ridge, who managed 168. I thought we were pretty bloody good across the park actually, although, let’s face it, the opposition was not up to much. The Kiwis scored an unanswered 28 points in the first half, then cut loose in the second. Johnson’s 22 points, added to his 14-point haul in the 38-8 victory over Samoa, gives him an impressive 36 for the tournament. The stats tell it all really, and they are what you would expect when one side is so dominant, the Kiwis with 196 runs against Scotland’s 84; 2079metres to 636; 31 offloads to six.
