The surface is a coastal plain rising from near sea-level to 916 m at the north-west corner and dissected by a number of rivers, chief of which are the Kei and the Buffalo. The geological formations range in age from Beaufort Series to Recent but most of the area consists of Beaufort Series invaded by Karoo dolerite. Most interesting is the recognition of the Middle Beaufort Stage at Kidd's Beach, Kwelera River, Qolora River and near Stutterheim as a characteris tic sandstone sequence 900 m thick.

Date of production: February 2019 Last update: February 2019 Amathole District Municipality Produced by: Executive Summay South Africa EMANTI SFD Lite Report The SFD Promotion Initiative (SFD PI) has developed recommended methods and tools for preparing SFD Graphics and Reports. A full SFD Report consists of the SFD Graphic, the analysis of the service delivery context and enabling environment for service provision in the city for which you are preparing your SFD, and the complete record of data sources used. This analysis allows a systemic understanding of excreta management in the city, with evidence to support it. As a starting point (first step stone) to this (explained in detail in the SFD Manual), the SFD Lite is a simplified reporting template that summarises the key information about the excreta management situation in the city. UNIVERSITY OF THE WITWATERSRAND AFRICAN STUDIES INSTITUTE African Studies Seminar Paper to be presented in RW 4.00pm MARCH 1985 Title: The Union, The Nation, and the Talking Crow: The Ideology and Tactics of the Independent ICU in East London. by: William Beinart and Colin Bundy No. 163 - 1 - In January 1930 a meeting was held at Headman Koliwe's location in Kentani district, Transkei. It was addressed by Elias Mabodla (or Agitator No. 53 as he was identified in a police report) who had come "to preach ICU amongst you people". He recounted how nine trade union leaders had been arrested in East London where they had called a strike. Their plight evoked strong sympathy in Kentani, especially as one of those arrested was a local man, Dorrington Mqayi. Headman Nkonki summed up the mood of the meeting: "It is for us to see into this matter as our blood is amongst those people in the gaol at East London." Fifty years later, during our research on rural popular movements we encountered Mqayi in his identity as an ICU "agitator" in Kentani. We then retraced his footsteps. In an archival echo of his journeys between the Transkei and the harbour city, we moved from the boxes holding the records of the Kentani magistracy to those of the East London Town Clerk. We had no way of knowing whether Mqayi would resurface in the East London documents, but began our search for him in speculative optimism. We did meet Mqayi again - but not him alone. Mqayi in East London was not the leading actor that he might have been on the smaller stage of Kentani; rather, he had a modest speaking part in a vibrant urban drama - a drama recorded in the vivid and detailed police records* of ICU activity in the Town Clerk's files.

A single genus repre- sented by 6 endemic species is known from South Africa. • Common name : micro-mygalomorphs. • Life style : ground dwellers, nocturnal free- running forest spiders. • Body size : 4-13 mm. • Diagnostic characters : colour : various shades of brown; carapace : glabrous, covered with blunt -tipped or clavate setae with the thoracic region as high as cephalic region and the fovea straight to slightly recurved and depressed; eyes : 8 closely grouped in 2 rows and situated on a small tubercle; chelicerae : rastellum absent; abdo- men : oval, covered with erect blunt-tipped setae; legs : tibiae I with prolateral spur. • Web and retreat : web : absent; retreat : hide beneath ground debris when not active. • Habitat : they are found in areas with high humid- ity usually in undergrowth of forest under stones logs and in damp, rotting logs and are common in the Forest Biome. • Behaviour : the Microstigmatidae are the only mygalomorphs in Africa that do not construct a catch web or live in silk-lined burrows. They are free-living wandering spiders found in areas in undergrowth of forest under stones, logs and in damp, rotting logs. They make minimal use of silk. They are a group of small spiders usually encrusted with earth that are commonly found in the undergrowth of humid forest areas. • Taxonomic notes : the family was revised by Griswold (1985). • References : DIPPENAAR-SCHOEMAN, A.S., VAN DER MER- WE, M. & VAN DEN BERG, A.M. 2006.
