Ovenshine Introduction This report consists of the following: 1) Geologic map (1:250,000) (Fig. 1); includes Figs. 2-4, index maps 2) Description of map units 3) Map showing key fossil and geochronology localities (Fig. 5) 4) Table listing key fossil collections 5) Correlation diagram showing Silurian and Lower Devonian facies changes in the northwestern part of the quadrangle (Fig. 6) 6) Sequence of Paleozoic restored cross sections within the Alexander terrane showing a history of upward shoaling volcanic-arc activity (Fig. 7). The Craig quadrangle contains parts of three northwest-trending tectonostratigraphic terranes (Berg and others, 1972, 1978). From southwest to northeast they are the Alexander terrane, the Gravina-Nutzotin belt, and the Taku terrane. The Alexander terrane of Paleozoic sedimentary and volcanic rocks, and Paleozoic and Mesozoic plutonic rocks, underlies the Prince of Wales Island region southwest of Clarence Strait. Supracrustal rocks of the Alexander terrane range in age from Early Ordovician into the Pennsylvanian, are unmetamorphosed and richly fossiliferous, and aopear to stratigraphically overlie pre-Middle Ordovician metamorphic rocks of the Wales Group (Eberlein and Churkin, 1970). -

Albian corals from the Subpelagonian Zone of Central Greece (Agrostylia, Pamassos region). Annales Societatis Geologorum Poloniae, 72: 1-65. Abstract: Shallow-water scleractinian corals from Cretaceous allochthonous sediments of the Subpelagonian Zone in Agrostylia (Pamassos region, Central Greece) represent 47 taxa belonging to 35 genera, 15 families and 8 suborders; of these 3 new genera and 9 new species are described. Among these taxa, 5 were identified only at the generic level. One octocorallian species has also been identified. This coral assemblage is representative for late Early Cretaceous Tethyan realm but also shows some endemism. A characteristic feature of this scleractinian coral assemblage is the abundance of specimens from the suborder Rhipidogyrina. The Albian age of the corals discussed is indicated by the whole studied coral fauna, associated foraminifers, calpionellids and calcareous dinoflagellates. A detailed study of a fragment of a colony of tbe halysitid tabulate coral Catenipora heintzi from tbe Norwegian Wenlock is . presented. The specimen was collected from tbe Braksøya Formation near Nes, Ringerike. Closely spaced (O.l mm) senal sectlons . document astogenetical events and trends, including lateral and interstitial increase, branching, damage and regeneratlon, and lateral growth of individual corallites. ABSTRACT We employ elevation data from the Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite (ICESat) Geoscience Laser Altimeter System (GLAS) to investigate surface changes across the Lena Delta and sea ice of the coastal Laptev Sea, Sibe- ria during winters of 2003 through 2008. We compare ICESat GLAS-derived elevation changes on sea ice and the Bykovskaya and Sardakhskaya Channels with datum-corrected tide gauge height measurements from Danai, Sannikova and Tiksi stations. We find the coastal sea ice and large inland ice covered channels elevation changes are in phase with the tide-height changes on a same month-year and datum-controlled basis. Furthermore, we find elevation change on tundra drained lake basins to be +0.03 ± 0.02 m, on average. -

Vasil’chuk1 1 Lomonosov Moscow State University, Faculty of Geography and Faculty of Geology, 1, Leninskie Gory, Moscow, 119991, Russia 2 Tyumen State University, 6, Volodarskogo str., Tyumen, 625003, Russia; [email protected] 3Russian State Hydrometeorological University, 98, Malookhtinsky prosp., St. Petersburg, 109017, Russia Late Pleistocene and Holocene winter air temperatures in Kotelny Island, northeastern Russian Arctic, have been reconstructed using oxygen isotope compositions of ice wedges and correlated with evidence of Late Pleistocene and Holocene climate variations inferred from pollen data. The δ18О values range exceeds 6 ‰ in Late Pleistocene ice wedges but is only 1.5 ‰ in the Holocene ones (–30.6 ‰ to –24.0 ‰ against –23.1 ‰ to –21.6 ‰, respectively). The Late Pleistocene mean January air temperatures in Kotelny Island were 10–12 °С lower than the respective present temperature. On the other hand, mean winter temperatures in cold substages during the Karga interstadial were colder than those during the Sartan glacial event. The Late Pleistocene– Holocene climate history included several warm intervals when air temperatures were high enough to maintain the existence of low canopy tree patches in Kotelny Island. Mean January air temperatures in the early Holocene were only 1.0–1.5 °С lower than now.
