WORK EXPERIENCE At Esh we offer a range of work experience placements with the site team or trade contractors including block placements on site or weekly placements of one or two days in our regional offices. Work experience gives people a chance to build skills that can’t be taught in a classroom environment and equips you with first-hand knowledge of the industry. Competition for construction, civil engineering and surveying jobs is fierce, we are proud to have delivered 360 days of work experience this year so far. We have set an ambitious target of 500 days which we are well on course to achieving. Esh Property Services are on track to complete the 7 storey residential development in February 2015 for client Home Group.

“I have studied Quantity Surveying for 2 years but have never had any on-site experience before. By being on Howard Street for 4 weeks I have learned so much from doing take offs, the rules and regulations of buildings and ordering materials. I attended and worked towards delivering H&S talks, worked through value reports with the Quantity Surveyor and attended a pre order subcontract meeting with the Construction Director. I am very grateful for Esh Build for taking me on and I have enjoyed working for them. All the staff are very friendly and everyone was easy to get along with.” Jayesh Singh, Northumbria University Student

ESH HAS THE FORCE

In August 2014 Esh Group announced a multi-year partnership with the Leeds Force basketball team. The deal will see us become shirt sponsors and support joint community programmes.

As you are all aware we have an existing relationship with basketball, we are current title partners of the ‘most successful franchise’ in BBL history, the Esh Group Eagles Newcastle. Leeds Force commercial director, Mark Mills, said: “It is great to have a well-respected organisation such as Esh Group on board for our inaugural BBL season.” “It was vital that we found a partner that understand and embrace both the professional BBL team as well as our aspirations in the community.” “I expect this relationship to go from strength to strength as both organisations strive for excellence in the future.” Brian Manning went on to say: “We jumped at the opportunity to partner with Leeds Force. They share our commitment to supporting the local community and an ambition to grow participation in the sport.” “Esh Group has been involved in basketball in the North East over the last six years, starting with wheelchair basketball and backing the Newcastle Eagles Foundation work in the communities. We have been hooked on it ever since. The move to assist Leeds Force is an obvious one given our expanding construction workload across Yorkshire and Humberside.”

FOCUS ON ESH BORDER

It seems like only yesterday that we joined Esh Group, the fact that time flies by is both a testimony to how well we all feel and also to the massive amount of hard work that everyone has undertaken to get us here.

In recognising the support of the wider Esh, I do want to labour on the team within Esh Border, the whole team has been, and is, fantastic. We have seen so much change and so much drive, all of us would like to take the opportunity to thank you for this. We look forward to growing our business together, many thanks for your support and help. The whole team of Esh will make Esh Border a success, the journey is underway but we have some way to go!

The Esh Border business is, as we all know, new and whilst we have made huge strides, we have much more to do, but the journey has begun and we have great momentum. One of the many things we all see in Esh Border is the commitment and dedication of everyone; what has been really key for us is bringing everyone into one team and feeling the benefit of the larger Esh Group in terms of sheer scale and direction but most importantly the drive and support provided. We have seen new systems coming in, an IT roll out, changes in processes, support to grow our civils business, massive support on the social housing front where there is a huge track record of achievement and what has become very important: an absolute focus on business development and marketing and the extension of the Esh brand to deliver performance. When you look at the Esh brand, it is so easy to almost take for granted the strength, it is so strong and you have had it for so long. For our business it has been a huge addition; I always believe that brand starts from within, it is how we feel about our Company that is the cornerstone, and everyone in Esh Border is really proud to be part of Esh.

WE’RE DOING A TRIATHLON

Over the summer three of our employees all took part in different sporting events and between them completed their own triathlon. Clare was raising funds for a charity very close to her heart, Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Charity. Celeste Armitage, also an Added Value Officer, took part in the Great North Run completing 13.1 mile in 2 hours 11 minutes. Celeste was raising money for Esh Group’s partner charity Butterwick Hospice. This could be in the form of black out glasses to simulate full or partial blindness or in the case of the archery event wearing a boxing glove to represent a disabled limb. The event is attended by circa 12 teams ranging from civil engineering firms to solicitors, beginning the day with a short briefing, organisation information and a warm breakfast. Teams then left the building to compete against each other at numerous events until lunch was served back in the warmth. Following a buffet style lunch it was back to competing in the outdoors – two different teams competing at each event. The day was rounded off with a decorated egg drop from the top of the climbing wall, before we could all head in for a much needed shower and a hot curry. The team from Term Contract are extremely proud to say that they have won this event on behalf of Esh Group both years and are looking forward to defending their title in March for the 2015 event.
