Scream Queens' Showcases Campus Scenery Tulane University 'Scream Queens' showcases campus scenery September 21, 2015 12:00 PM Alicia Duplessis Jasmin [email protected] Fox"s “Scream Queens” shot the fictional Wallace University on the uptown campus of Tulane University. (Photo from Fox) The uptown campus of Tulane University is seeing its share of gore as the highly anticipated comedy-horror series “Scream Queens” films its debut season using Tulane as its backdrop. Set at the fictional Wallace University with those scenes filmed at Tulane “Scream Queens” follows the women of Kappa Kappa Tau sorority, which is known for its well-to-do members and selective pledge recruits. When an anti-Kappa dean played by Jamie Lee Curtis enters the picture, she demands that the sorority open its doors to all interested young women regardless of their economic and social status. Soon after the sorority obliges, a devil mask-wearing killer becomes the campus" next big problem. “The Fox crew started scouting for locations around campus in February,” says Barri Bronston, assistant director of public relations at Tulane. “They"ve filmed in the Lavin-Bernick Center dining hall, Newcomb Quad, Lavin-Bernick Center Quad, Gibson Quad, in front of Gibson Hall and in classrooms in the Richardson and Hebert buildings.” Bronston says the film crew was still filming scenes on the uptown campus at the end of last week. In addition to original scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween), other notable actors in the series include Emma Roberts (“American Horror Story: Freakshow”), Lea Michele (“Glee”), Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) and Ariana Grande, to name a few. When “Scream Queens” premieres Tuesday (Sept. 22) on Fox, this will not be the debut of Tulane on film. In 2014, 22 Jump Street was filmed on campus, and in 2010, several Tulane students had a chance to act alongside Miley Cyrus in So Undercover. VOL. 116. NO. 4 www.uiwlogos.org October 2015 Agnese discusses guns, progress By Stephen M. Sanchez LOGOS NEWS EDITOR The University of the Incarnate Word community will be polled to get its views on the state’s new law allowing concealed guns on campus but UIW will likely opt out, the president said. Dr. Louis J. Agnese Jr., who’s been president 30 years, shared this with those who attended his annual “State of the University” address on Oct. 6 at CHRISTUS Heritage Hall. Agnese also gave a mostly upbeat report on the university’s growth in his “Looking Ahead to 2020” PowerPoint presentation, pointing out how UIW has grown from 1,300 students and a budget of $8 mil- lion when he first became president in 1985 to its 11,000 students globally and budget in the hundreds of millions today. He’s seen a small college morph into the fourth-largest private school in the state and the largest Catholic institution in the state. UIW currently has 10 campuses in San Antonio, one in Corpus Christi, and another in Killeen. The university also contracts with 144 sister schools overseas in its Study Abroad program. More than 80 majors are offered including bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. UIW also has professional schools in pharmacy, optometry and physical therapy with a School of Osteopathic Medicine set to open in fall 2017 at Brooks City Base. UIW students also receive more than $150 million annually in financial aid. - Cont. on page 2 Stephen M. Sanchez/ LOGOS NEWS EDITOR -Agnese discusses progress.
