MR. ELIMINATION Bryan Rust made a name for himself scoring huge goals during the 2016 and 2017 Stanley Cup Playoff runs when the stakes were highest. Since entering the league, Rust has scored 10 goals and added an assist in 20 career elimination games (games where Pittsburgh could clinch a series OR was facing elimination). Below is a look at some of his most memorable elimination games:

2016 Round 1, Game 5 vs. NYR: With Pittsburgh up 3-1 in the series, Rust finished with a team-high three points (2G-1A) which doubled as his first- career postseason goal and points. This three-point night was his first, and only career, three-point performance in the playoffs. 2016 Eastern Conference Final, Game 7 vs. TBL: Arguably Rust’s best playoff performance to date, he scored both of Pittsburgh’s goals in a tight 2-1 win to send the Penguins to the Stanley Cup Final. Both goals came in the second period, and no goals were scored in the final 29:54 of the game. 2017 Round 1, Game 5 vs. CBJ: Once again the Penguins found themselves up, 3-1, in the First Round series and once again, Rust delivered. He finished the night with his third-career two-goal playoff performance in just his 28th career playoff game. His second goal doubled as the game-winner. 2017 Round 2, Game 7 vs. WSH: In a winner-take-all Game 7, Rust scored Pittsburgh’s first goal of the game in an eventual 2-0 win to propel the Penguins to the Eastern Conference Final.

Rust registered his first multi-point effort (1G-1A) of the 2021 postseason in Game 5 less than a day after his son, Hunter, was born.
