THEO: A MUCH MISUNDERSTOOD YET AWESOME DOG! By Kathy Kelly-Weston he puzzle that is is one several people have tried to understand. For those of us who have Tknown him for a long while and have seen a loving, loyal, playful side, we are baffled by his fearful reactiveness to strangers who try to touch or even get too close to him. It is only clear that Theo has had some past scars from abuse which he has yet to fully overcome.

Once Theo has decided to trust someone, he is completely open to all the affection and touching he can get, belly rubs, butt scratches and all. He will generously slather kisses upon those he trusts, and his tail wags are full-rear-end-so-happy-to-see-you-out-and-out-ecstatic waggles. Be Prepared When Your Pet Comes Begging With the holidays approaching, your dog or cat will inevitably be begging to partake in the big turkey dinner. This year, before preparing a heaping plateful for your pet, consult a vet and consider these 10 tips to keep Thanksgiving a safe, healthful holiday for your dog or cat.

#10 Yes to Turkey Turkey can be a wonderful lean protein to share with your pet. Remove any excess skin or fat, stick with white meat, and make sure there are no bones. FROM THE WORLD OF GUS #9 No to Onions, Garlic, Leeks and Scallions When it starts to get cold around here (and it was the Small, well-cooked portions of these foods can be okay same when we all lived on the farm in South Carolina) if your pet is used to it, but ingesting these foods in the two-leggers start talking about “the holidays.” They large quantities can lead to toxic anemia. never explained to me what that means. PAW PRINTS | November 2014 2 A CAT’S UNIVERSE by Snoopy & Gizmo

CAT TV

Mom saw Gizmo studying something very intently in the window well and went over to see what was so interesting. Well guess what! There sat a small mouse looking back at Gizmo. Boy did Gizmo really want out there. Of course Mom would not let him out. She said the mouse was so cute and had such beautiful, soft brown almost velvet looking fur. All Gizmo saw was a “great toy.” He has given Mom mouse gifts before but she said it did not appear that he had done anything to them so maybe he just played with them and they died of fright. The next issue was how to get the mouse out of the window well and set it free. First they tried putting a box on its side and put some bacon grease in there to see if he would go inside. I thought everyone and everything liked bacon but evidently mice do not because he only ran in very fast and then ran out and never went back. That night they took the box out and tried to come up with a different strategy for the next day. Meanwhile Gizmo spent a lot of time watching the mouse and begging to get out there. Day two of CAT TV began with Mom putting some critter food out for the mouse and a small dish with water. She said it was not going to starve on her watch. I am not sure what that means but the mouse sure liked the food and water. Dad came up with the idea to put a long piece of wood into the window well and the mouse could walk up and free himself. Well, the mouse sniffed the wood and then went back to his hiding place behind a piece of slate leaning against the window well wall. In the afternoon Mom check on him but he had not gone up the wood so she got some cheese and put in on the wood spaced apart so he would, hopefully, follow the cheese to freedom. Day three of CAT TV began with despair as the mouse was still there and had not eaten any of the cheese. Mom was really sad so she put out some more critter food and water so he would not starve. Well he stayed the rest of the day. Day four of CAT TV and the mouse is GONE along with all the cheese pieces! Mom is happy but Gizmo is not. He keeps looking out the window for the mouse. Mom finally let Gizmo into the window well and you would think he was a dog the way he sniffed all around the place and then he just sat on the window sill and watched for the longest time. For the next three days he kept watch, off and on, but at last he finally gave up. Gizmo complains that nothing ever happens at home and that is why he does not get as much print time. He could have written this from his view point but he did not so I had to do the job. Your Cat Reporter, Snoopy
