/GENEVA MOTOR SHOW 2018 Geneva is the best show to get an overview of the future of the European and broader auto industry as there are always significant launches of new vehicles and concepts of the future. One thing that is clear is that the industry is facing dramatic change. The car world has been shaped by petrol heads, and the idea that the future of the automobile will be dominated by electric, autonomous and shared vehicles is an unavoidable reality that is not that easy to take. Some car makers are embracing the change, some are fighting against it, and some seem to be in a a state of paralysis. The show had a multitude of Visions, Vizzions, Mission e’s and i’s. A vast array of supercars, AMG’s, M’s and SV’s And a variety of classics from the past, showing a certain nostalgia of this fast changing world. The industry for the last 100 years has been perfecting “the ultimate driving machine”, faster, bigger, sexier and more expensive. The industry has optimised the design process with masterful surfacing, fit and finish, the finest engineering, and the glossiest of marketing. It now has to reinvent itself, as the architecture, driving emotion and customer needs change. I have picked out some of the themes and highlights from this years show. /AROUND THE SHOW /THEMES /EV and HYBRID PERFORMANCE Some of the stand out cars of the show, introducing a new crisp/clean design language, where white signified electric. New York Times May 20, 2010 David Gulick APPRECIATION A Type 55 roadster, worth more than $1 million today.Even as prices for vintage Ferraris made headlines, the Bugatti marque managed to hold the title of most expensive. A 1931 Type 41 Royale that sold at auction in 1987 brought nearly $10 million, setting a record that stood for two decades. This month, a 1936 Type 57SC Atlantic coupe that won the Pebble Beach Concours dʼÉlégance in 2003 sold privately for more than $28 million, according to Katie Hellwig, a spokeswoman for Gooding & Company, the auction house that brokered the sale. But every now and then there are Bugatti bargains. In January, a 1925 Brescia Type 22 sold to a museum collection at auction for $345,000. That car was a bit the worse for wear, having spent more than 70 years at the bottom of Lake Maggiore in Switzerland, the result of a dispute over import duties.

The Bugatti EB110, Veyron and Chiron1 are seen as milestones in automotive engineering from the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. Bugatti enthusiasts and owners worldwide dream of having all three vehicles complete in their own collection as “the trilogy of modern Bugatti”. They are both coveted collector’s items and an investment. All three models came together for a photo shoot – unique photos of a collection which rarely exists in the world. Bugatti EB110 Super Sport At the beginning of the 1990s, Romano Artioli created the first super sports car of modern times with the EB110. EB are the initials of Ettore Bugatti, while 110 stands for his 110th birthday. At the presentation in Paris on 15 September 1991 – on Ettore Bugatti’s 110th birthday – Bugatti revealed a vehicle featuring sensational technology: the lightweight monocoque weighs just 125 kilograms, and is the first series-production car to be made of carbon. Aluminium and carbon, among other things, are used for the body, the wheels are cast from magnesium, and the bolts are made of titanium. The car is powered by a 3.5-litre V12 mid-engine with four turbochargers and a maximum engine speed of 8,250 rpm. Sixty valves ensure fast gas exchange, while the four turbochargers operate with a boost pressure of between 1.05 and 1.2 bar and reduce the turbo lag to a minimum.

  • Bugatti Heritage – a Year of Records
Bugatti Heritage – A year of records MOLSHEIM 02 02 2021 CLASSIC BUGATTI CARS ACHIEVED RECORD RESULTS AT AUCTIONS IN 2020. Historic Bugatti cars continue to rise in value. Five automotive masterpieces from Molsheim were the five most valuable vehicles sold at auction internationally in 2020. Despite the pandemic, historic Bugattis broke records at the auction houses Bonhams and Gooding & Company: never before have the five most expensive cars sold at auction been produced by a single manufacturer. Bugatti vehicles have always been exclusive. But as their age increases, so does their value – as shown by an analysis carried out by Classic Analytics, a company specialising in international market analysis and valuation of classic cars worldwide. “Bugattis from the Ettore and Jean Bugatti era, especially in their original condition and with a history of racing, have always been among the most expensive classic cars on the market. This trend has held steady and in fact even increased despite the general decline in interest in pre-war vehicles,” says Frank Wilke, Managing Director of Classic Analytics. Classic Analytics belongs to the Hagerty Group, the largest classic car service provider in the USA. The top ten ranking is based on an internal auction database in which all international classic car auctions over the course of a year are observed and evaluated. “The current situation has certainly brought about a change in the auction market, from face-to-face to online auctions. But prices for exclusive, classic vehicles remain stable at a high level,” says Frank Wilke. “Every historic Bugatti vehicle is unique. Those built between 1920 and the end of the 1930s set standards in both performance and design.

Bugatti celebrates European premiere of the Divo in Paris MOLSHEIM / PARIS 01 10 2018 THE VENUE FOR THE FIRST PUBLIC APPEARANCE OF THE BUGATTI DIVO ON EUROPEAN SOIL COULD HARDLY BE MORE APPROPRIATE. THE DIVO IS COMING HOME. The venue for the first public appearance of the Bugatti Divo1 on European soil could hardly be more appropriate. The Divo is coming home. The French luxury brand Bugatti is celebrating the European premiere of its latest model in Paris one month after its world premiere at “The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering” in Monterey, California. On the day before the first press day of the 2018 Paris Motor Show, Bugatti unveiled the Divo before an audience of selected media representatives and customers at an exclusive event in the French capital. In developing the Divo, Bugatti wanted to create a super sports car with a different character from the Chiron which would still be immediately recognizable as a Bugatti. The Divo, which is powered by Bugatti’s iconic eight-litre W16 engine with a power output of 1,500 PS, is tuned for agility, nimbleness and optimum handling performance on winding roads, without any concessions with respect to the usual levels of comfort and luxury. The aerodynamics of the model have been intensively fine-tuned and the suspension and chassis settings have been modified. As a result, the Divo is 35 kilograms lighter and has 90 kilograms more downforce than the standard Chiron2. The lateral acceleration of the Divo has been boosted to 1.6g. Its maximum speed is limited to 380 km/h.
